Photography equipment like a camera and studio produced relevant images with professional lighting and background. Photoshop edited images for a more professional look. InDesign, which I had not used before, allowed column layouts, feathering, and fonts to construct a realistic magazine.

- 2. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PREMILINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

- 5. PROGRESSION Noted in the evaluation if my Preliminary Task, I talked of improved ‘the sharpness and picture quality’ and that the image was a little blurred and off focus. This was changed by the use of background lighting to light up the model better so the focus was primarily at hand than the background. I also edited the image further through saturation and contrast levels on Photoshop later on in this process. Also in my final production, I used a variety of images that were resized to different dimensions, which was not the case for previously. Likewise from my research into codes and conventions, I used a number of different fonts of different sized importance of the article.
- 6. LEARNING During the process, I learnt a huge deal about the use of different techniques in Photoshop. One of the most familiar of these which I used frequently in the front cover, was the use the opacity effect on my text, I found by using this, the text on the page look more appealing and makes the page pop out more and attract the reader rather that it being dull and flat which is unattractive in most cases. There were many different options and settings when applying the opacity text. I could change the thickness of it and how clear they could see the text and allow the picture to come through.

Through a blog post, I learnt about the use of different layers and how to move them over the top of one another with thanks to a YouTube tutorial and through this I managed to make my final production more complex and professional-looking. Before this, I created as few layers as possible to avoid overcrowding of the sidebar in my preliminary task. I also presented my work differently through stretching the lettering to be further apart, as well as including quotes and the use of shapes.
- 8. Through all of the research I was able to conduct for codes and convention and my focus group following my preliminary task, I was able to refer back to them on my blog and stick to the common conventions for a music magazine for the best outcome. Lots of preparation prior to the final production helped a large amount rather than plunging head-first without any knowledge of the expertise, and I did this through numerous mocks and sketches, as well as shot lists.
- 9. CONCLUSION To conclude there were significant changes between my preliminary task and my final production in terms of the quality and professionalism portrayed. This is all down to the number of new techniques I have acquired over the process which I put to use in production. Other things factored into this like understanding common codes and conventions of other music magazines and significantly, planning. Without these attributes, I would not have been able to produce a good quality product.
