1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task I have a better understanding of the key conventions of a music
magazine. My first draft allowed me to experiment with the layout and structure of a simple
magazine front cover and contents page; this was very basic and limited in content. I decided
to design this first magazine on PowerPoint, as I was less confident in using design software’s
such as Photoshop and InDesign however through the different drafts of my magazine I was
able to learn new skills on Photoshop and InDesign. I learnt how to take high definition
photographs using a high quality complex camera, I overall took around 600 shots, this
allowed me to experiment with camera angles and shots making sure by the end of the process
the photos I was taken were at a high standard. Through the range feedback I was given I was
able to make adjustments to my magazine, this allowed me to strengthen my skills in the
software as I began to becomefamiliar with the tools.
2. MOCK UP
From the preliminary mock up to my final product I gained a wider range of skills in the graphic
software. Contrasting my contents pages the mock up version had a basic layout which I merely
developed in my final product, this was done by changing the colour scheme and adding more detail
and a creative design in my features column. The gain of knowledge of existing magazine conventions
allowed me to develop the magazine turning it into a sophisticated product. The final design is much
more detailed and realistic. I learnt the conventions of a Double page spread and applied them to my
final version, this included making sure I had maximum three article columns, the image is spread
across bothpages, there are sub images and the magazine logo Is present on all pages.
