The student learned several skills in progressing from a preliminary school magazine task to developing a full music magazine product. For the music magazine, the student learned to add more effects and styles to the masthead to make it more unique, add shadows to give it depth, and include a strapline. The student also learned the importance of using bold fonts to draw attention to key elements and varying font sizes and styles to make the contents page more interesting. Through refining images and fixing details, the student learned that small adjustments can improve the overall quality and professionalism of the magazine.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Question 7
1. Looking back at your
preliminary task what
do you feel you have
learnt in the
progression from it to
the full product?
2.
3. When I started doing my school magazine, I tried out
different fonts and styles on Photoshop. I came up with
a simple curved masthead. I used the colour blue
throughout. I also added the website for the magazine
on the top of the page. The overall effect was simple
and plain
For my music magazine I learnt more about the different effects,
styles that I could use with the masthead. I played around with a few
tools and blending options. I decided to change the first letter of the
masthead to make it unique and keep that more as a logo for the
magazine. I also added a shadow to give it more of a 3D effect. I
also added the strapline on top of the masthead. I used the same
font on the first letter than I did with the strapline to keep the theme.
4. The story lines
on the magazine
were very simple
and the
typography was
also simple, in
blue font, all the
same. I included
a puff and used
a white star
shape as the
background to
make it stand out
from the rest of
the front page. It
went with the
white/blue
theme. The font
is in small I
learnt that the
“what's new?!”
should have
been more bold
and eye catching
For my music
magazine front
cover I used
different types of
font for different
things. For
example for the
quote I used big
bold red and for
the names of the
artists I used black
plain writing. This
was because I
learnt that there
has to be a main
story for the
magazine, so I
done the quote in
bold so that the
audience are
aware that the
quote relates to the
magazine. In the
process I also
5. For the main image, I used this
model. The things I could have
changed would be perfecting her
skin and the small details such as
under eye bags, darkening her
eyebrows, changing the colour of
her head scarf so that it would
match the theme. I could have
also fixed a few blemishes with
For the model I used for the music
magazine, I used a few tools to fix
her blemishes, I darkened her
eyebrows with the “burn” tool and
smoothened her face. I also made
her skin complexion same on her
face as her neck so that the picture
doesn't’t look out of place. In the
process I learnt that little details
make a big difference and there are
6. For the school magazine’s
contents page the stories
on the contents page were
straight forward and not as
interesting as they could
have been. The font was
also basic and the colours
were dull. The font was
slightly large and there
wasn’t enough information
on the contents page.
For the music magazines
contents page, I added
more colour, made it look
interesting. I also added
extra bits such as “inside”
and “more inside” the
“inside” I kept it the same
as it would carry on as a
theme. I wrote in different
fonts and sizes not
everything looked the
same. I learnt that contents
page consists of more
7. In the preliminary task, I didn’t add a few basic things such as the
date for when the magazine was published, the price of the magazine,
the numbers on the pages, a strapline, website, barcode. The school
magazine front cover was quite basic with limited amount of stories
whereas in the music magazine front cover I learnt that there have to
be a few things and a variety of those few things as not everyone
would be interested in just one story. I also learnt that the pictures
had to be accurately cut around the model and leaving the edges
smooth as the picture will then look odd
Page numbers are important
as the audience will then know
where to turn if they need to
find something specific. If
there is no page number it will
be hard for people to read the
magazine and it will take long
to look for something specific
It is important to have the date of when the magazine was
published as the audience will then know that they are
reading the right thing and at the right time. So that they
are up-to date with any information the magazine is giving
Price and barcode is important on a
magazine as buyers will know exactly
what they are getting and for how
much. Without the barcode the
magazine wouldn't’t scan
Other things I learnt during the process:
