What have I learnt from audience feedback? Aidah Namugenyi
Pre-production feedback Before we created our film we decided to conduct some research into our target audience. We conducted a 3 types of data collection Questionnaire Focus group Survey
Results The results from the questionnaire helped us in finding the demographic of our target audience. It also contributed to the decision of which genre our film would be. 1) The Questionnaire
Results 2) Focus group The focus group enlightened us on the fact that on average 6/8 people preferred films with an element of comedy.
Results 3) Survey The survey found that people felt the plot was the strongest aspect within the concept of our film, this gave us the confidence to begin scripting. The survey also displayed that the relevance to them was the weakest element in the film.
Changes we made. We incorporated large elements of comedy into the script after finding its appeal to our target audience We changed elements of the representation of characters in order to have a more universal appeal We decided to embed pieces of iconography which would be identifiable to our target audience.
Test screening of walking sequence. A questionnaire was handed to everyone in the room who was watching our footage .
Results. The majority of people thought that the shots flowed well and they didn't feel too abrupt, which is what we wanted as they had to be in sync with the non-diagetic music in the scene. Most people said that it was a bit too short
Changes we made. We decided to edit in some more of the footage we had filmed in order to expand the time in which the sequence took place, without however loosing a sense of synchronization.
Final screening questions What did you think was particularly successful about our film? What would you change? Who do you think the target audience is? Do you think we are reaching out target audience? Please comment. Where do you think you would find a film like ours? (websites, cinema, TV, etc)
Audience response “ i think the film narratively it worked really well, and i loved the shots where his friends disappeared. also the acting was really good which added to the narrative” “ I think that the target audience is both male and female of ages between 16-25” “ The editing and continuity is all perfect, and the storyline is excellent.” I'm not keen on the black screen and the title "Some things aren't meant to be seen" . It's kind of unnecessary and it wouldn't take anything away from the film by removing it “ Internet, Virgin Media Shorts and the short films played before the trailers at the Picture houses”
THE END.
