3. Software
We used Final Cut Pro to practise editing after filming tester teaser trailers and
animatics. This was so that we could get familiar with the software as it was new to both
of us when we started the course. At first the program was quite hard to use but we
eventually got the hang of it and we were able to most of what we wanted to do and
whenever we wanted to try something new we had the help of a technician in learning
different techniques. After this preliminary stage we were able to edit our teaser trailer
with confidence after filming.
We learnt how to use different In hindsight, in addition to
tools like the blade and the making animatics and test
arrow tools. We also learnt how teaser trailers , I would have
to select the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of tried other software to see if I
clips and cutting clips in a could use different sort of
sequence. I learnt how to put effects on different aspects of
effects on clips and using colour the teaser i.e. using motion to

Learning these techniques during our planning stage was helpful as it gave us a chance
to get comfortable with the new software.

4. Software
Photoshop: We used Photoshop in our AS year and
one of us is a graphics student so we were well
experienced with the program. Using it in A2 was
just a chance to enhance skills we had already learnt
but also to learn some new skills. We practised
different techniques in making our production logo
and we made a lot of different attempts at it to keep
it as simple as possible but also to show our creative
element to our work. Photoshop was one of the
main programmes that we used especially in
making our poster and magazine cover. One thing
that I have learnt much about on Photoshop is
using filters and using different blending modes
and the uses of them. An example of where we
altered the blending mode of a layer is in the
poster.

5. Software
We also used different programs to help with the planning and research such as
Microsoft Excel to produce a small questionnaire and tally up all our responses.
We also used Microsoft Word to draft up our textual analysis of the different
teaser trailers and movie posters.
The Internet
We used social networking sites to stay in communication with each other about
when we may want to film or discussing different parts of our tasks. We both used
Facebook and Twitter so we did find most of the time it was easy to find a way to
contact each other.

6. Hardware
Canon 7D & 550D: These are the two cameras that we used in order to film the shots
used for our teaser trailer and take pictures for our magazine cover and movie poster.
We had a lot of practise using these types of cameras from our foundation year where
we had to create a music magazine. Last year we only had to take pictures so using it for
filming was a relatively new experience for both of us, however I had had some
experience just before we started this piece. What I learnt the most about these
cameras is how to use the cameras to the best of their abilities to get the best image
possible which may vary on what type shot you want. I learnt about ISO, aperture, and
shutter speed and how they affect the amount of light going into the camera and how
the speed of the shutter affects the image quality. Also learning about depth of field
and that the narrower it is could give a really good camera effect when pulling focus
between two objects/subjects that are similar distance from the lens

7. Hardware
We used two main lenses which were a 50mm prime
lens and a 18-55mm lens. Learning about learning
about lenses took some time and learning which lens
would produce the best image for what we wanted
was hard too. We ended up using the 50mm lens to
shoot our footgae for our teaser trailer and we used
the 18-55mm lens to take the pictures that we used for
our magazine cover and movie poster. We tested
these lenses out heavily during our planning and
research stage with both cameras to see which
combination would work best.

8. Hardware
As constant lighting for our teaser trailer we used a
Kinoflo (400 watts) light. We also used Bowems
Gemini E spirit GM 500 flash to light our still images
for our magazine and poster. We learnt about
different styles of lighting and different effects we
could create just by altering lighting in a scene.
Lighting was obviously a key part of our teaser trailer
and the images for our magazine and poster as we
had to make sure that the subjects were well lit
whilst trying not to over expose the scene plus trying
to create an effect with the lights. I think this was
one of the hardest parts of production for our teaser
trailer because the lighting could potentially make a
really good shot look bad when coming to post
production and editing. In our teaser we only used 1
light instead of going for the conventional 3-point
lighting system. We found that the light gave a nice
effect on our subject plus it was easy to set up and
put away.

9. Hardware
Using an Apple Mac was also a new experience for
both of us as neither of us own one, nor have we
used one so regularly. So this was a good opportunity
to learn how to use one and get to the point where
we are comfortable in using one that we are able to
use keyboard shortcuts to perform certain tasks e.g.
taking screen shots.

10. Summary
Handling all this equipment with care was a big part of our experience as we had
to remember that it wasn’t our and we had to have treated with care and delicacy
but still using them to the best of our abilities.
Using industry standard equipment was also a good opportunity to get familiar
with things we may be using in the future as one of us wants to build a career in
this industry so it was a good opportunity for them to know what is required in
this particular field in certain practices.
Things that did hold us back were problems with the college network system on
the computers and not being able to upload videos from the macs to YouTube.
Also communication was an issue at times because one of us had a smartphone
who was able to access social networking site that we would communicate on
like Facebook and Twitter however I didn’t so I would have to wait until I got
home to find a message my other group member may have sent me earlier in the
day.
