2. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION
MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
• - All magazines need to be distributed by a company to their audience. There
are some independent distributors, but they don’t receive as much exposure or
sales
• - I think that distributors like Bauer Media Group and IPC Media would be
interested in MDS because it’s to a very select audience and also has a wide age
range so would make a lot of money.
• - MDS is a digital as well as physical magazine. The selling price (retail) for MDS
is £3.80 (one copy). As a digital subscription, a month’s subscription would cost
£23. The magazine would be published every Friday*
• - Bauer Media Group also distribute lots of wellknown music magazines (such as
Q & Kerrang!)
• - IPC distribute magazines like NME. *NME is a free magazine.

3. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT?
• My magazine is in the pop/lyrical
genre, and because it also explores
music as well as dance and fashion,
the genre is a lot more broad and
applicable to the audience. Therefore,
my target audience are aspiring
musicians and dancers aged from
around 9-10 to 16-24. There would
be two issues of the magazine, one
for our younger readers – which
would include free giveaways like
little mirrors, headbands and lip-
gloss palettes. For our older readers,
there would be items like in ear
headphones, headphone splitters
(more technology based items). I
think that these giveaways are more
suited to each age group division
because the older readers aren’t
going to really be interested in a little
kids’ makeup palette and vice versa.
My magazine doesn’t have a set precedence in terms of
“being a certain social class to read/contribute to the
magazine”. MDS (previously named: MusicDanceStyle)
believes in the mantra that everybody in terms of ethnicity,
social class and where they live (in relation to postcode wars)
are equal. So everybody has the right to contribute, buy and
read the magazine. There are not any type casted artists or
any provocative language that could be seen as offensive.
Our younger audience would be able to contribute to their
copies by sending in posters or drawings that we at MDS can
feature within the magazine. This gives the magazine more of
