2. Representation: the description or portrayal of
someone or something in a particular way.
Social Groups: Social group has been defined
as two or more people who interact with one
another, share similar characteristics, and
collectively have a sense of unity.
4. Male
In my film opening my male character is seen as the protagonist and
comes across as the week character. He is a victim of a feral girl. The
protagonist is normally shown through a female character however I
have counter typed this. The reason for this is because I wanted to
show the power through the women, which means I have challenged
the gender stereotypes. My male character comes across very laid
back at first however once seen by the girl becomes very weak and
small about himself. I was influenced by the film Orphan to create this
idea with my male character however I made it unique within the
narrative.
5.
6. Female
My antagonist character for my film opening in shown through my
female character. The young girl comes across very powerful and
confident about herself. Even though she is a very young character she
brings herself forward to become very fierce. It is a common thriller
convection to use a little girl as a frightening character and a reason for
why I used my female character in the same way is too try out a usual
thriller convection. I believe the reason for why they use a little girl in a
lot of thriller films is because the audience does not expect the actions
they could perform during a film and they also give off a lot of tense
moments once the violence side of them has been shown. The female
character is normally shown as a male gaze however my female
character is the complete opposite due to her personalities and would
definitely not come across as a male gaze. An example of a thriller film
where their female character has been shown in the same way as mine
is Ghost Ship and this is where I was inspired by.
8. Throughout my film of In the Shadows, ethnicity isn’t shown as a
extreme social group as all of my characters are white British and
all the filming took place in Britain. However because all my
characters are White British this meant a could challenge the
stereotypes of British people. These were shown through the
characters, and especially with one character being the
protagonist and the other being the antagonist as it helped to let
both characters stand out. On the other hand, the estate agent is a
stereotype of a white British, casual women which was shown
through her characteristics and attitude.
10. All three of my characters are in the age category between 13 years
old to 30 years old. This means they are all quite young people. Both
my adult characters come across as very smart business people, they
are dressed in a well presented manor. Firstly my male character is
seen in a burgundy jumper, shirt and jeans. By dressing him in jeans
shows us he is keeping within his age group by looking stylish and
smart at the same time. On the other hand my women in dressed in
white top, nude colour blazer and jeans, she has been dressed in
these specific clothes for the same reason as the male character, to
keep her looking smart but also to show her young and stylish side as
well. Thirdly my young girl has been given an age of 13 years old.
Most young teenagers become to get quite confidence about
themselves, this is shown through the little girl in all aspects, she has
no fear of anything or anybody around her and has a lot of confidence
of protecting herself in all ways. However I have challenged the
stereotypes of the little girl by showing she has a lot more power than
the male character she comes across which isn’t typical for a teenage
girl.
