Social groups in Thriller
 The onscreen age of most characters within Thriller films are older than what is
presented onscreen in our film but due to lack of resources we worked as best
we can through casting to fit the genre conventions. The older characters in
Thriller films are experienced, rough-cut and smart through there
representations that typically gives the protagonist a strong connection in the
audience as they like and ae invested in their character.
 In Thriller films and sometimes also Horror, there are often a certain set of
people that are similar to others in films under the same genre as the cast is
usually conventional to a specific type of person. Stereotypically in Thriller
there is always an antagonist, as they are the reason for the break in
equilibrium. As well as this, the protagonist is closely connected to the
antagonist.

Representation of males
 Specific to the stereotypical convention of males in Thriller, they are often
used as the antagonist as they connote themes of power and
dominance. Furthermore due to this we presented our male antagonist
through subtext in a negative way and we did this by portraying all of the
horrific things he has done within the narrative and using longer shots on
other characters and only using close up shots on the antagonist.
 One shot of the antagonist was during the opening scene where his
reflection is a close up in a mirror and this is used a climax point. This
particular shot helped us to convey the fear this character gives out as
the close up conveys him as a threatening character.
 By implementing these factors, it conforms to the conventional stereotype
as the male is presented to have as a strong, threatening persona.
Representation of females
 Throughout the duration of our two minute opening sequence there is no on
screen presence of a female but the reason for the investigation in the
beginning of the narrative is due to the death of a female character. Many
films under the Thriller genre present women as vulnerable and weak because
they are stereotypically the victims within the situation and this is why we
decided for the death to be a women in the narrative beginning.
 Also women are often sexualized in films with the use of make-up and
revealing clothing but we challenged this stereotype by only representing the
female character through subtext not aesthetics.
 Women don’t often play the main on screen role in films under the Thriller
genre and we followed this convention by adding the female character as a
side character within the narrative.
Representation of class
 The location of our film did not have a specific class representation and
therefore didn't show the audience of a class type for any of the
characters due to no visual indications.
 The narrative is based on characters whose professions often are of a
higher than working class salary and they then may be linked to a middle
class background. On the other hand, the production consists of a variety
of themes of violence and therefore can connote towards the working /
lower class due to class stereotypes of the C – D groups often being linked
to violence and similar examples that are presented in our film.
 Also another contradiction of the previously presented points, is that the
costume of the characters is smart because they are wearing suits or shirts
and ties that are typically wear of the middle or higher classes.
Representation of age
 Our film opening consists of 3-4 on screen characters, all male that are all
aged between 18-22 and they are all represented in different ways as the
persona of their character was often of someone older. Thriller films often
cast older cast members for the main roles but our casting was chosen
with the best we had to offer with the oldest available actor at the age of
22. In addition to this the youth of the characters, specifically the Chief
and John, use strong language which is a stereotype of modern youth in
comparison to older people.
 The character driving the car was only wearing jeans and T-shirt and this
costume was selected to represent this character as a younger onscreen
presence in comparison to the others in suits or shirt and tie.
