2. GROUPS WE HAVE CHOSEN TO SHOW AND OUR
MAIN CHARACTER:
The groups we have chosen to show in our film are
Teenagers, different classes and genders.
There were many ways we showed our chosen groups. They
included clothing style, clothing colour and location.
Our main character in the film is an average teenage girl who
finds herself in a situation that most teenagers will luckily not
find themselves in. She is approached by a hooded older
figure, who appears to attack her.

3. STYLE OF CLOTHING, COLOUR AND LOCATION
Because we wanted our film to affect the target audience of
teenagers as they would relate to the characters closest.
We chose to represent many similarities between
teenage girls in society and our film character. The key
way we did this was through the style of clothing. Our
character wears Black leggings, long white t-shirt and a
brown and white faux fur hooded coat. This style of
clothing is very similar to what many teenage girls wear
in society in the present day.
The colour of her clothing also portrays certain feelings and
emotions. She wears a white t-shirt; white is used to
show innocence and insecurity. Many young girls wear
white in films to show how innocent they are and the
audience feel weary and develop a relationship with the
character and therefore become worried and scared as
the girls future starts to be written during the film.
Another way we portrayed her vulnerability and
insecurity was through the use of location. We used a
desolate remote location near railway arch, this showed
that because of the tight railway arch nothing could be
seen by onlookers as the location was in the middle of
nowhere where there were very few residents. The
remoteness of the location also shows that an attack
could happen anytime without being seen by
eyewitnesses not just at night.

4. GENDER AND CLASS
The portrayal of gender is key in thriller films, the male character is
strong and powerful and the female is weak and most likely gets
caught up in something and needs rescuing. In our film we chose to
represent gender as a major juxtaposition as it puts a twist on the
common convention that the male is the most powerful. At the start
the female appears to be weak and the male character is the most
powerful as he appears to attack her. However we see the female
character walking away and the more dominant and powerful male
lying on the floor unconscious or possibly even dead.
We showed different classes in our film, as the lower class character is
usually the attacker or antagonist and the wealthier middle or upper
class character is the protagonist. This is the case as in our film the
antagonist is of working class as they wear work boots and basic
non-branded clothing. The protagonist is clearly of a higher class,
most likely middle as she has wealthier clothing including the coat
and also has more expensive technology including her IPhone that is
clearly displayed in the shots.

5. STEREOTYPES AND MESSAGES
The main stereotype that we are using is that teenage girls are innocent and
insecure when alone in non-public locations. Even though this stereotype is
strong we also challenged this because at the end of the opening we see that
the girl has defeated the attacker and shows that not all teenage girls are
innocent and insecure about their surroundings. This relating to the common
saying “Angels with dirty faces”.
The key message we are giving our audience of teenagers is to be weary and not go
out alone around secluded, non-residential locations and especially not at night.
If you go in a group you will look less vulnerable and also there will be more of
you to protect each other if anything was to happen.
