The codes and conventions of a radio trailer consist of:
The purpose of a radio trailer is to grab the attention of the audience and to gain interest in the documentary so they are more likely to watch
it.
Sound bites are taken from the documentary – the most interesting parts of the interviews in the documentary.
We have used the same voice over as in the
documentary e.g. the individual is female in
both the trailer and the documentary,
conforming to the codes and conventions.
The voice over intercuts throughout the radio
trailer to carry the narrative along and
conveys what might be included in the
documentary.
Starting with the word ‘Colours’
enables the audience to instantly
know what the documentary will
be about. This is straight to the
point and so the audience with
remain engaged as they find out
more about what the
documentary will entail. This will
also create interest as this is an
unusual topic to discuss.
The sound-bed that we used
was ’99 red balloons’ which
relates to the topic of the
documentary adding
continuity to the radio trailer
whilst adding further
interest.
The end of our radio trailer is the
scheduling information which
conforms to the codes and
conventions of a radio trailer as we
have started with the title,
channel, date and time.
