Within my media magazine product, I have represented my character as being
young. He is in his latetwenties, and challenges the representation upon his
social group, not only due to himbeing portrayed as very responsible, genuine
and mature, but also dueto him getting married.Due to him being young, this
is intentional in order to bringupon the audience a fresh start/new beginning
for the older music;the genre that is considered old,yet classic. The social
group would focus upon certain age (unconventional toward the artist),
gender (male) and also his ethnicity (Italian origins).
If I were to use a location, itwould probably be a stage, due to the stage
resemblingthemes of show-business;this is howthe singers were presented
within the 1950’s- 1960’s.Another location that would have been ideal to
partake in photography would have been a European location, ideally Italy.
This is due to the character being Italian, hencesomewhat going back to his
traditional roots. Also, the music genre that has been established is widely
recognised in Italy;also through Anglo-Italians,such asBritish born Italians
and American born Italians.
The character used is purposely in usein order to challengestereotypes of
young individuals.Stereotypically, young(mainly) men prefer to listen to rock,
rap and pop; with my character,he is much more traditional and in someways
honourabledue to his appreciation toward the pastof classical music. He is
very mature, calmer, and also holds a formof respect toward his youngname.
Individualsthathave been included would be fans of classical music, opposed to modern day types of genres that are
available.Itisn’tnecessarily excludingindividualsfromthe piece, but itis merely aimingto suitthe desired target audi ence;
this is justlikeevery magazine and piece of media. Upon the themes of classiness, classical music movements, cheekiness,
this will includea target audience in which admireand respect the old fashioned styleof music.Due to itbeing recreated a nd
relived by a younger music artist, itwill includean established group of passionatefans of the genre, therefore leadinginto
the purchasingof this specialised Swing/Blues/Classicmagazine.
Within the magazine, I have made the overall look (of the character) as realistic aspossible. Now, opposed to special effects
being used from left, rightand centre, I decided to keep it simpleand classy. There’s nothing worse than creatinga piece of
work that holds huge irrelevanceupon the overall intentions of the magazine, but also thatdoesn’t suitthe style. If I were to
use special effects, such as ‘colour changing’,and also ‘dispersion pixel effects’,it would have held no suitability atall.Itals o
challenges conventions, not only to a music magazine, but also for this type of music genre, even though there are rarely any
Blues/Swingmagazines out there. The factthat I kept it realistic gives a natural look, connotinga senseof happiness upon
the character and the genre, but also to suggest that nature has supplied the world with a form of incredibletalentand
genuineness; likethe image, he is smooth, warm and genuine.
Mise En Scene:
Lighting: bright, in order to natural assign/connotehappiness;brightness symbolises a happy mood
Costume: smartsuit;it suits a hard worker and old fashioned singer;fits in with conventions of the 60’s
NVC: the character is happy;mixingwith the sunlight;the character suits a happy and clas sy genre
Props:no props are used; likethe music, itis pure natural;unlikemodern music, not much is required
Setting: the setting is through a mixture of background; grey, white and blue; connotingan older look
Macro features would truly depend on the micro features, and in a sense, creates a certain type of style in which is
appreciateby the target audienceas well as institution.Even though I gave simplebut helpful, littleexplanations aboutsome
of the micro features used, they will help in the overall look of the magazine. The MiseEn Scene suits an older look/style,
which is intentional throughout. It constructs itto fully suitthe expectations for this unique, and rarepublication upon this
music genre. It is unique, but also similar to how the genre of music within the magazine would have been presented, all of
those years ago when the music and publicationswere in its prime. I hope features used were meaningful and hold meaning.
5 adjectives for my artist:
Kind, Genuine, Mature, Caring, Classical:
These words help to represent the genre as being a verywelcoming and satisfying
type of music to participate in, not to mentionthat the magazine holds the same
intentions as well. Like the character, theyare trying to present themselves in such
a wayto applya sense of kindnesswithin society, not to mention, bring a positive
attitude to a genre of music that is considered extinct by some.
The institution thatwill publish this magazinepublication would ideally beBauer Media Group. Due to them publishing over
300 different magazine brands around the world, itwould be easier to distribute. Also, due to there being a largerange of
genres published, this genre will truly suitits intentions, and also stand outas somethingnew too.
