Question 2:
How does your media
product represent
particular social
groups?
My product is a pop-alternative
music magazine with a target
audience of males and females
aged between 16-25. My product
represents young people who
have a strong interest in music
and like to keep up to date with
their favourite artists.
The front of my music magazine
features a female model who is
about the average age of my
target audience. The younger
ages will aspire to be like her whilst
the older ages will respect her.
The male audience will see her
through the male gaze. However I
have dressed her in suitable
clothes which don’t show a lot of
bare skin to avoid her being
objectified. I wanted to keep her
classy as not many magazines
tend to do so.
I have used a colour scheme of
red, grey, black and white which
will appeal to both genders. This
therefore doesn’t put my male or
female target audience off of
buying my magazine. I also think
these colours link with music.
As my music magazine is two
genres combined this wide my
audience which means it will
appeal to people who enjoy pop
as well as people who enjoy
alternative music. It will also
appeal to people who like a
mixture of both. This will boast my
sales which means I will make
more profit.
