2. Before I designed my magazine I made a questionnaire using survey monkey and asked my
peers to complete it by using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. I decided that
my music magazine would be directed at both genders aged from 15-25. I wanted to target
this audience as didn’t want to have sophisticated and serious journalism in my magazine and I
wanted it to be different compared to popular magazine such as NME and Rolling Stones
magazines.
Making a questionnaire with these ideas helps me to see what genre of music they target
audience would prefer a indie-rock music magazine. By making a indie-rock magazine I was
confident I was able to portray the look I wanted as I prefer indie- rock music and I would be
able to know what the fans of this genre likes.
As I descried on making a indie-rock magazine I began to look at other indie-rock magazines
that there already are such as NME and Rolling Stones to help me get a idea on how I should
layout my magazine and how I should entice the readers to my magazine.
3. REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS
In the two indie-rock magazine I looked at before making my magazine
NME and Rolling Stones I looked to see who the popular artists where in
them magazines. A list of them where Foo Fighters, Jake Bugg, Artic
Monkeys, Haim, Noel Gallaher, 1971,James Bay, Fallout Boy,Eille
Goulding
I felt it was important that I should use the way these artist dress as
inspiration on how I should present the artist in my magazine so they
would be able to appeal to my target audience and attract them to
read the magazine.
The colour scheme I used throughout my magazine conveys the
audience imp aiming to attract and the social group I am representing.
From my target audience questionnaire I found out that the colours that
they would like to see where red, black and white. By using the colour
black helps to convey that my media product is of indie-rock genre as
the colour black is associated with rock music and by using white and
fierce red help to create a modern, indie colour combination that
conveys the indie-rock genre.
By doing so I was able to established my house style of the magazine. I
feel that my magazine will appeal to both males and females because
of the neutral colours that I have used as they aren’t to femine or
masulcant.
4. REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS
As the majority of my audience are between 15-25 when looking at the demographic table
for the UK the majority of people in my target audience would be from the groups B,C1 and
C2 which are middle class and skilled working class.
5. REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS
The images I have taken of my main artist represent a social group through her outfits, makeup
help to convey my artist as a indie fan and relates to the genre of my magazine and will help
to attract my target audience to the magazine.
6. REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS
I tried to represent different social groups throughout my media product with the
images on my contents page. These images represent festival/concert goers and
anyone who likes to be kept up to date with the latest news. The second artist of my
contents page represent a different social group and is different from the main artist
as he is a male he would attract other males to read the magazine.
