2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The social group represented in my magazine are older teenagers to young adults. Ages of about 16-24.
MY magazine is gender neutral and shows both males and females. The colour scheme throughout also
gives a gender neutral feel. The women shown inside are not sexualised at all. This opens up my
magazine to women as well as men. As over sexualisation often puts women off buying magazines. The
artists shown in my magazine are all about 18 so fits in the age range of my readers. This subverts from
usual rock or alternative magazines which are normally aimed at slightly older people and therefor feature
older artists. Race and ethnicity is not very well represented in my magazine as all the models are white
British which could make the audience smaller because of lack of diversity. All the artists inside are young
and trying to be successful, this relates to the audience who will also be trying to succeed in whatever
path their taking. Whether that is starting a band, a new job or with exams.
4)Who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience would be young adults and teenageres from the ages of 14-23, as
the magazine is rather gender neutral it would be for men and women. As the
magazine features alternative artists it is likely that the audience will listen to this
kind of music, enjoy going to music concerts in this genre or festivals. As the
magazine features up and coming artists who are all about the same age as the
target audience they are likely to be rather similar to the artists featured or aspire
to be like them. The audience would have to have a real appreciation of the music.
The price of the magazine also fits the audience as it is easily affordable.
5) How did you attract/address your audience?
I attract my audience by using bright colours against a dark background, the main
image of my front cover uses direct address to draw in the audience The over
images catch your eye and make you want to see more. I use informal language
or chatty language and don’t use any specific dialect words so that it is open to a
large audience. If the magazine were to formal it may turn away some readers as
reading magazines is something you do to relax. The writing is like you’re
speaking to a friend to engage the audience. The font of my masthead is very
interesting and weird so catches the audience's eye once again it is bold and so
would stand out when placed next to other magazines. The free poster inside also
attracts the audience as anything free is always good especially if you’re a young
student who is likely to be reading my magazine.
