For her pop music magazine, the author's target social group is students aged 15-25, primarily female. The magazine portrays their lifestyle, which includes going to concerts and caring about fashion. It shows artists as hardworking to inspire the social group. The magazine appeals to this demographic by focusing on up-and-coming pop artists they can relate to, including look books, affordable pricing, and non-sexual imagery with a black British model.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Evaluation 2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups ?
Emily Grannon
2. What is a social group?
A social group is essentially a group of people that have
surrounded each other due to similar interests or
characteristics, they may also share the same goals and aims
for the future and are even n the same social ranking in
school, work or just in the society.
3. Who is my
social
group?
For my pop music magazine I think that my
social group is essentially students who are
aged between 15 - 25 mainly female but
some issues could appeal to male as well.
They enjoy the new music the magazine
introduces to them and always up for going
to gigs, concerts and festivals. I think the
music could be listened to when their
getting ready to go out, walking outside or
even just to quietly listen to when doing
work. In my magazine Ive used advertising
techniques to go to new concerts and
making a returning artist seem exciting and
refreshing for them.
4. The Lifestyle of the Social Group
My magazine presents the lifestyle of the social group because as I
have advertised for “free concert tickets” it shows how they are
interested in going out and enjoying their youth. Furthermore my
magazine also shows how fashion is also important as I have
involved “look books” off different artists, female and male singers. So
they take they care about their image and style, keeping it up to date.
In my magazine I hoped that I portrayed my artist as hard working
and dedicated something that my social group is as in the article it
contained how “she is back” and ready to still carry on her career
after the split with her band. This should reflect or inspire my social
group.
7. Gender
My main aim was for my magazine to
appeal to females as I feel there is a wider range in the pop
industry for females rather than males so I could experiment
and explore more ideas to attract female readers. This was
with colours, my model, fonts, it made the production easier.
The colours I did chose was purple, white and black. I
decided not to chose the typical pink as I felt like I wanted a
more edgier look and to appel to a more mature
teenager/young adult reader. White was frequently used
colour in Billboard and NME so I chose white as it seemed to
‘work’ for the professional magazines. Unlike NME (which
attracts both male and female readers) I decided to take more
inspiration from Billboard which could be the reson why my
magazine leans more towards females. Also to appeal to my
female based audience I made my model pose in a non-
sexual manner and made her convey a more friendly an
likeable state so that the audience wouldn't become offended
or even intimidated.
8. Age
The chosen age range for my magazine is between 15-25 year old. I wanted to
play on the more youthful side to music which is already quite a common age
range for the pop genre as in this age its considered that they are up to date
with whats happening in the industry which helps with my magazine as I wanted
it to be my audience supply, meaning this is where they would find the new
upcoming artists and whats coming. I think that in this era the young set the
trends and ‘spread the word’ on whats new which is why I wanted to use this
age range. Also many artist that I have featured are close to this age like “The
Neighbourhood” who lead vocalist is 22 and both “Lana Del Rey” and “Lily
Allen” are 29. So my target audience could feel almost a connection like the
artist are there friends and someone they can relate to and for the younger side
to my audience they may see the artist as role models.
9. Ethnicity
The ethnicity for for my magazine isn't perspicific as I have included
different ethnicties in my magazine. My model is black british and the
artists are caucasian. Therefore I have tried to open my audience to a
broader range of ethnicities. I have chosen to do this as the pop genre
usually contains caucasian people, however it is beginning to evolve so
I wanted my magazine to do the same.
10. Conclusion
To conclude, evaluating my magazine
I think my social group was
represented well as I constantly
received feedback from focus groups
and made sure that they thought my
magazine linked with their
characteristics and lifestyles.
Therefore I think that the social group
was correct portrayed and so I would
think that they would buy my product.
