Q2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
My music magazine is on the genre pop. The target audience of the magazine is young girls aged 1216.

Typical stereotypes of girls this age are young girls that are interested in the lives of girls/women
slightly older than them. They often attempt to look like and act like the girls that they aspire to be
like. They are stereotyped to be into makeup, shopping, boys, gossiping, dancing and dressing up in
nice clothes.
They are known to be girly girls that like the colours pink and wear ‘pretty’ clothes and shoes rather
than trainers and tracksuits etc. although they are young teenagers that aspire to be like their idols
that they see on TV and read about in magazines they are still seen as sweet and innocent and are
yet to make mistakes.
This target audience are typically seen to be from a higher social class background as they are still
innocent and in a sense sheltered from the ‘real world’ as they are so interested in the lives of the
celebrities they are so interested however these lives are often just an image that is portrayed rather
than real life. They are seen as being higher class as they are more likely to be able to afford to keep
up with the lives of the celebrities involved in this genre of music, such as going to concerts and
appearances. The typical ethnic group of this target audience is usually white English or American.
This is because black people of this age and gender tend to be stereotyped to be interested in hiphop and R’n’B.
My music magazine immediately appeals to this target audience as it uses ‘girly’ colours such as
pinks and purples which are typically this target audiences favourite colours.
The magazine uses models which are typically good looking and the target audience would want to
be like. The magazine masthead stands out and is outlined in a bright pink glow which would be
appealing to the target audience. The models used all are wearing makeup with their hair down, this
should attract and appeal to this target audience as makeup is something they are stereotypically
interested in. The categories in the magazine involve a category on gossip about the celebrities in
the magazine. This is something that this target audience is attracted too as they enjoy finding out
information about these people as these are the people they aspire to be like so any information
about them is relevant to the readers and of interest to them.

  • 1. Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? My music magazine is on the genre pop. The target audience of the magazine is young girls aged 1216. Typical stereotypes of girls this age are young girls that are interested in the lives of girls/women slightly older than them. They often attempt to look like and act like the girls that they aspire to be like. They are stereotyped to be into makeup, shopping, boys, gossiping, dancing and dressing up in nice clothes.

They are known to be girly girls that like the colours pink and wear ‘pretty’ clothes and shoes rather than trainers and tracksuits etc. although they are young teenagers that aspire to be like their idols that they see on TV and read about in magazines they are still seen as sweet and innocent and are yet to make mistakes. This target audience are typically seen to be from a higher social class background as they are still innocent and in a sense sheltered from the ‘real world’ as they are so interested in the lives of the celebrities they are so interested however these lives are often just an image that is portrayed rather than real life. They are seen as being higher class as they are more likely to be able to afford to keep up with the lives of the celebrities involved in this genre of music, such as going to concerts and appearances. The typical ethnic group of this target audience is usually white English or American. This is because black people of this age and gender tend to be stereotyped to be interested in hiphop and R’n’B. My music magazine immediately appeals to this target audience as it uses ‘girly’ colours such as pinks and purples which are typically this target audiences favourite colours. The magazine uses models which are typically good looking and the target audience would want to be like. The magazine masthead stands out and is outlined in a bright pink glow which would be appealing to the target audience. The models used all are wearing makeup with their hair down, this should attract and appeal to this target audience as makeup is something they are stereotypically interested in. The categories in the magazine involve a category on gossip about the celebrities in the magazine. This is something that this target audience is attracted too as they enjoy finding out information about these people as these are the people they aspire to be like so any information about them is relevant to the readers and of interest to them.
