The target audience for the magazine INDEPENDENCE will be 16-25 years old, including both males and females. They will be youthful, independent-minded, and strive to be unique and successful. The majority will be motivated to become successful musicians themselves and aspire to be like indie rock artists. More males than females are expected to read the magazine as there are more successful male indie artists. These males likely have their own band or perform gigs and have a distinctive style including tattoos and piercings. The target audience enjoys activities like attending concerts and festivals, spending time with friends, going to the movies, and creating music. They favor genres like indie rock, rock, heavy metal and punk rock for

1. Target Audience Profile
The audience of INDEPENDENCE will be of both genders. The reader’s age will be
between 16-25, this means that the majority of readers will be in education, either
6th from, college or attending university, the rest would more likely to be working.
There would be an equal amount of readers that are in relationships to those that
are single, not that it would affect them reading the magazine. The target audience
will be youthful and outgoing. Exceptionally mindful and follow their own thoughts.
The readers will be very wild and slightly childish; and very rarely take into
consideration of other people’s opinions about them. These young adults will take
pride in their appearance; dressing within the ‘high street’ fashion but with their own
unique touch. The audience will be independent and strive to be different, and
successful, they will have flirtatious and funny banter. I think the majority of the
target audience will be motivated to become successful musicians and will try and be
like their aspired celebrities/musicians.
I believe more males will read my magazine then females as you don’t find many
successful indie rock artists that are females. The readership is more likely to relate
and aspire to be like artists of the same gender that they are. These males are
probably in the process of having their own band or they already exist and are
performing their own gigs at smaller locations. They will have their own style,
attitude and outlook on life. The instant images of these types of people are thought
to have tattoos, piercings, wearing baggy tops and skinny jeans, with their rugged
long coloured hair. These males would aspire to be like Pete Wentz, Joel Madden,
and even acoustic artists like Jake Bugg. I believe this population of the target
audience will be interested in meeting new people, making new bonds with people
and even finding a romantic partner.
The females included in my target audience
will look up to artists like Hayley
Williams. Successful independent artists that they can aspire to be like as theses
females will probably have a vast interest in music. I expect this side of the target
audience to be wild with a party animal lifestyle. These females will be outgoing but
stubborn, not very interested in many other people unless they are in the group of
this ‘rock and roll’ lifestyle. They will have an extreme look about them. For example,
they might have crazy colours in the hair, independent clothing, piercings, and
tattoos.
I think the overall interests of the target audience includes road trips; any
spontaneous outing, attending gigs and festivals, partying and hanging out with their
closest group of friends. In their spare time I think they would like going to the

2. cinema, creating music, writing lyrics. Some of the target audience might even be
interested in photography, art and design.
My target audience will be interested and favour specific genres like indie Rock, Rock
and Roll, Heavy Metal, Punk Rock. I think what they like most about these genres of
music are the features they include, for example, they same attitudes and outlook on
life, the style and interest that they share. Firstly they like the music because the
lyrics are relatable; it makes them thoughtful and able to concentrate. Also the main
reason is just because it’s enjoyable and entertaining; it is easy to tap along to the
beats, it’s enjoyable for them to go to their gigs and participate in festivals that they
feature in.
