This document provides guidance for answering an exam question about developing research and planning skills from AS to A2 level coursework. It discusses key theories from Fraser and Bennett, Slater, and Wall around professionalism, organization, and learning from other media. It instructs the student to identify at least two examples demonstrating progression in these areas. Feedback is provided on defining primary, secondary, and qualitative research methods and noting what was replicated from AS to A2 based on influence from other media. The document concludes by assigning homework of drafting a 25 mark written response evaluating skill development through referenced examples, with 1 week to complete.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

How to Create Map Views in the Odoo 17 ERPCeline George
The map views are useful for providing a geographical representation of data. They allow users to visualize and analyze the data in a more intuitive manner.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
1. Section A – Question 1 a)
Development and Progression –
Research & Planning
Wednesday 19th March 2014
Unit G325: Critical Perspectives in
Media
2. Why?
Aims & Objectives
• Re-cap prior learning in relation to what is
expected of you for this Section of the exam.
• Go through the expectations for Question 1 a) and
how you need to discuss and evaluate the
progression you have made from AS to A2 with
your coursework in relation to Research &
Planning.
• Establish HOW you have made this progression
and identify some key examples YOU MUST use
and know for the exam IF you get a question for
this area.
• Review the learning.
AO2
Apply knowledge
and understanding
to show how
meanings are
created when
analyzing media
products and
evaluating your own
practical work
(Section A)
6. Pete Fraser (2002)
Suggested that creativity is
brilliant, but that the key to a
strong media product was
“professionalism and
organisation”.
7. “Professionalism and Organisation”
Fraser (2002)
AS (Foundation)
A2 (Advanced)
YOU MUST consider HOW you “developed” from AS to A2 in terms of professionalism
(performance) and organisation.
YOU SHOULD aim to identify at least x2 examples that demonstrate this progession.
Extension – YOU COULD consider what difference this Professionalism and
Organisation made to the outcome of your Product – Did this have a positive impact?
9. Types of Research carried out:
Primary
Secondary
Qualitative
Log on (if you’ve not already done so)
YOU MUST find the definition for EACH of these methods of research.
YOU SHOULD then reflect on whether you completed any of these types of research at AS
(Foundation) and/or A2 (Advanced) – for example:
Primary Research – Questionnaire/Survey Monkey at A2 – Did you do this at AS Level?
Extension – YOU COULD consider whether this effected the outcome of your Production work.
11. Bennett, Slater & Wall (2006)
All media production
“takes place in the light of
other media production”.
Secondary
Secondary Research – What did you replicate “in light” of looking into other products?
YOU MUST note down x2 examples of something you repeated across AS (Foundation)
and A2 (Advanced) level.
For example – “I ensured I replicated, “in light of other media production”
(Bennett, Slater & Wall – 2006) I deconstructed…”
13. 1 (a) Evaluate how you developed your Research & Planning skills in achieving the desired
outcome for your Production work.
Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.
[25 marks]
YOU SHOULD designate no longer than 25-30 minutes answering this question
(dependent on how much planning you want to do for Section B).
1-2 Minutes – BRIEF Plan and Introduction – YOU COULD start with a theory
20 minutes – 3-4 examples from your AS coursework and compare/contrast your
“Research & Planning skills” to similar OR DIFFERENT examples from your A2 work.
Link to theory such as Fraser (2002) and Bennett, Slater & Wall (2006)
2-3 minutes – Conclusion/Proof read
14. What you have learnt– Plenary
3 minutes
YOU MUST write down x1 thing
theorykey term/area you need to
address for Research and
Planning
YOU COULD give more than x1
example.
15. Homework:
FINISH Producing a typed/written answer to:
Due: Thursday 27th March 2014 – 1 week today
1 (a) Evaluate how you developed your Research & Planning skills in achieving the desired
outcome for your Production work.
Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.
