2. Q1 in what way does your magazine develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
3. The conventions I have followed are …
Selling line
Cover image
Headline
Cover lines
masthead
Sub-
Headline
Date line
4. Inspiration
In my research I got inspiration from acoustic
magazine as it was the same genre I was
focusing my magazine on so it told me some of
the forms and conventions I needed to focus
on and implement in my magazine
I Also did a similar layout to the acoustic
magazine but changed the colour scheme to a
grey and blue as I thought those colours were
more friendly and eye catching.
5. MASTHEAD
I have followed the conventions of
real music products by including a
masthead
I used a black fill and a bold text to
make it stand out among the grey
back ground.
However I also challenged
conventions by replacing the o
with a volume sign to add more
detail and to add a unique factor
to my title
It is also probably the biggest font
on my magazine which makes it
eye catching for the audience
6. Cover image
In my cover image I got my subject to
hold a guitar as it appears to be an
convention of acoustic music , I also
got him to wear a denim jacket as I
think that it compliments the genre
well. I chose to follow the conventions
as I think without the guitar the genre
my magazine is aimed at would not be
clear
7. Head line and Sub headline
My headline is in block capitals to show the importance of the artist also the
white colour and the black drop shadow makes it stand out among the jacket
and t-shirt of the artist. The sub headline shows Sam Burts life story and how
he has progressed to an artist and shows a clear fore shadow of what is to
come in the rest of the magazine.
9. Column layout
I have tried to include all the
artists that are featured in to
one column as it signifies
how jam-packed the rest of
the magazine is .
I have also included one
single photo and the only
photo of my artist to show
his significance in this
months issue and shows his
priority
I’ve included an editors letter
in the top right
10. Title and date line
‘CONTENTS’ is the biggest font on my magazine as it clearly signifies what part of the
magazine the reader is looking at.
It is a black colour as it stands out among the grey background and is also in a bold
text.
The date line is in the top right of the page and references to what month and year the
issue is dedicated too
11. Masthead logo
• I have sort of went against conventions as I
have not included my masthead logo in my
contents page as I didn’t think it was
necessary and took up room where I could
put more to make my contents page look
better.
12. Page numbers
I used the colour black to stand out among against
The grey back ground and also on the photo of the
artist used a black box as the back ground as it
distinguishes the page. numbers from the rest and
also gives the contents page more detail
14. Columns for body text
All my text is printed on the
second page as it allows the first
page to consist of a photo of my
artist and give the article detail
then just having everything
jampacked on 1 page .
I have put my article into 3
columns which gives it an
organized structure and makes it
easier to read for the reader.
I have put my text around the
photo to add detail and to give
the article a more visual effect
15. Headline
Positioned at the top of the
Second page as it will be the
first thing the reader sees
before they read the article it is
also positioned so it doesn’t
obstruct the artist photo.
I also put it on a slant to give it
more detail and changed the
colour for white to a light blue
at the end to match my front
cover and contents page and
also gives my headline a unique
factor.
16. Pull quote
• I have decided not to include a pull quote as I
don’t think in necessary since I have included
a quote from my artist on my contents page.
• I think that a pill quote also obstructs he artist
image and draws the attention away.
17. Photo shoot image
Covers most of the first page to imply
the the importance of the artist
throughout he magazine
White background to make the oray of
colours stand out like the
orange/brown of the guitar and the
blue of the denim jacket.
19. Cover
The conventions I have used have been
developed from this issue f acoustic
magazine where it is the same genre as what
my magazine is based on and focuses on
similar artists as my magazine.
I have tried to base my layout on the
acoustic issue however have developed
certain aspects such as the colour layout as I
have changed it from orange and brown to
grey and blue
I also developed my masthead putting it in a
different font as I wanted it to stand out
more and also I developed it by changing the
name but also replacing the o with a volume
sign as I think it gives my masthead a unique
factor and also relates to the overall basis
and foundations of my magazine which is
music.
20. Contents
The column layout was inspired
by this Q magazine and I placed
the photo shoot image in the
same position
Also the dividers I used like the Q
magazine to separate the artists
names and to give my contents
page a organized look and
structure
I also included a editors letter
however put it at the top of my
contents page to give it more
detail and to give it a personal
aspect to the reader
21. Article
A quote has been used just like the Q magazine and also have changed the colour of one
word to develop and to add detail to the quote , however I have changed it to blue to match
my colour scheme
I Have also developed the Q magazines idea got my artist to hold the guitar and to give the
photo shoot image a more live aspect and to give the rest of the article more detail.
22. Challenging ideas – cover
I have changed the o in volume and replaced it
with A volume sign to give it a unique aspect t
my masthead
I have used a image of a sticker on my
magazine and have included details to the
magazines competition. This is eye catching for
he reader and may encourage them to read the
23. Challenging ideas – Contents page
I have included another sort of give
away in my contents page and in the
background put a light blue back to
make it stand out more with a image
of the gift card and can encourage
the reader to carry on reading the
magazine for the giveaway.
24. Challenging ideas – article
The artists quote is under the
headline and doesn’t obstruct
the photoshoot image and
allows the reader too see it in
full detail
