1. In what ways
does your media
product develop
or challenge
forms and
conventions of
real media
products?
2. This is the music magazine I looked at while making my own
magazine. I used this magazine as the model is Adele, her music
genre is more of indie pop which is the genre I wanted to use for my
magazine. Also the layout and the information of the magazine is
how I wanted the front cover of my music magazine.
3. Use Develop Challenge
I used the same colour
scheme for my music
magazine as the Q music
magazine as it fit in well
with the genre
I used a female model on
the front cover. The
images are similar as their
hair is wavy and they have
no emotion on their face
and they look classy
I used a floating quote
from the artist which the
Q magazine also has
I developed it by making
all 3 colours (white, black
and red) more even. More
red used in the masthead
instead of just all black
I darkened the image to
make the colour stand
out more. Her hair
darkened whereas the
model on the Q magazine
has light hair
My floating quote has a
different font and the
name of the artist is
smaller than the Q
magazine
The masthead on the Q
magazine is very simple,
in one corner. I went
against that and made the
masthead on my
magazine longer with
different font
The angle the model is in
on the Q magazine is
more in the right corner
whereas the the image I
used it taking up more
space on the front cover
The stapline on my music
magazine is on top of the
masthead whereas for
the Q magazine its hidden
and more smaller
4. This is the contents page from the same Q magazine which I looked at
while making my music magazine contents page. The layout goes well
with the images which is why I figured it will be suitable to look at
5. Use Develop Challenge
The information is on the
left side of the page
which is how my layout is
set. This is because the
images on the Q
magazine are on the
right. Which is the same
as my contents page, the
image is on the left, I’ve
divided the two so that
the audience can see both
at once
The contents title and
date are on top of the
page. This reminds the
audience that they are
reading the contents
page and when the
information was
published
I developed on title of the
contents as the Q
magazines title is very
simple with simple font. I
made my title large with a
font that I have used
throughout the music
magazine.
I changed around the
subheadings so instead of
“features” I added
“inside” as it is simple as
it clearly states what's
inside the magazine
The images on the Q
contents page are more
close up and mid shots
whereas I decided to put
a long shot image on my
contents page. As the
long shot shows the full
image including costume
on the model which
relates to the genre as it
is classy and
sophisticated.
The title of the contents
page is directly on top of
the page and underneath
the subheading. It is in
large font whereas the Q
magazine it is small and in
the corner
6. Finally, I used this double page spread as I liked the
theme of it, the layout and the floating quote. Although
it was a different genre to my music magazine, I done a
similar lay out with my own information and changed it
up slightly including the colours and images.
7. Use Develop Challenge
I done a similar technique
with the floating quote.
The different sizes in each
word. It made it look
effective and was large as
it catches the readers
attention and makes
them want to read on.
The floating quote on my
music magazine double
page spread was
“YouTube changed my
life”. I made this a
floating quote as it is
something the audience
of today would be
interested in.
My colour scheme stayed
the same as for the rest
of the magazines. I
developed on the colours
as it went with my
specific genre. The
colours on the magazine I
looked at are more dull
and dark.
Also I added more colour
to the image and the text,
the background. Like I
mentioned, I added more
colour to go with my
genre. I used red for some
of the text as it is
feminine, clear and is
used throughout my
music magazine
One half of the double
page spread is an image
however I decided to put
two images in one and
make it half of a page.
This was so that more
information can be put
into the interview and the
floating quote.
I changed the layout
around, instead of having
writing on just one page, I
wrote more on both
pages. I also had a code
for the interviewer (red)
and interviewee (black)
so that the audience
