1. Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
2. During the process of making my magazine, I have learnt many different skills from the different technologies.
These technologies are split into two different categories; software and hardware.
The hardware refers to technologies that you can physically touch and use. For example; disks, computers,
cameras etc...
3. Camera:
I used the Nikon D50 digital SLR, to take all the pictures for my cover, contents and article. I learnt how to use the
zoom in and out on the camera and how to successfully use the lighting and framing in the best way possible, to
make the subject look the way I needed them to. It also allowed me to learn how to position my model into the right
pose.
Computer and keyboard and mouse:
I used Imac Apple processor. This has many different functions within it. I have never used an Apple mac before
and it had taken a lot of practice to get used to using it for what I had needed.
Most of the keys on the keyboard were put in different places and, some of the keys were not even there. For
example, the ‘Delete’ button wasn’t there, if I wanted to delete something I would have to press the ‘Backspace’
button. The mouse wasn’t difficult to use, it was just a different shape to any normal mpuse and the scroll was a bit
smaller than on other mouse.
4. USB memory stick and SD card:
I used the memory stick and SD card to transfer the pictures I had taken with the
camera. I had to take the SD card out of the camera and put it in the side of the
memory stick, as there was no other way to transfer my pictures.
5. Software
The software is what I used to edit and create my magazine. I cannot physically touch and
use it but, the software is within the computer. I had used multiple softwares within the
creation of my magazine and it had all helped me quite a lot.
6. Adobe Photoshop CS5:
This piece of software was used throughout most of the process of making my magazine. It
had helped me put together all the different aspects within the cover and the contents. There
were many different tools that I had to use to create my magazine.
This tool is what I had used to crop and cut out what I needed from the pictures I had taken. I had
to use a different window to cut out the picture and then move it over to the window with my
magazine cover, contents and article on.
7. This crop tool is to help me reduce and pick out
different aspects of my images.
I used this this fill tool to change the background
of my magazine and to fill any boxes, to make my
text stand out to the audience more.
I frequently used this text tool to fill out my cover
and contents. I could change the size, font and
colour of my text and it was used consistently
throughout my magazine.
I used he zoom in and out tool to frequently
change the perspective and view of my pages.
8. I had never used InDesign before and it had taken me a while to get used to all of the different tools. It s
similar but also very different to Photoshop. There are a lot of aspects that are quite similar, that I had no
trouble in figuring out. Although, there were quite a few things that I did not yet know how to use.
I used this select tool to pick and move what I
needed throughout my article process.
This text tool was used frequently in
my article as, my article was full of
different texts. Like Photoshop, I
could change the font, size and colour
of my text.
I used this tool to draw boxes, so I could
place an image within the box. I would
not be able to place an image without a
box.
Like in Photoshop, I could use the zoom in
and out tool to change the perspective and
view of my pages.
9. Powerpoint
I had used used Powerpoint before my magazine project, so I knew what to do. I have used Powerpoint
to create my evaluation questions.
10. Wordpress
Wordpress was very new to me and I had never used it before but, it was very simple to use and it had helped me keep
track of all the work I had done. It is a very simple way to show the coursework I had done.
