1. Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression from it to the full
product?
2.
3.
4.
5. Even though I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do for
my preliminary task, I was able to secure knowledge of a
conventional layout in my final cover. I learned how to align
all key components for a music magazine.
I created a colour scheme which was Brown/orange, Black
and white. I choose these colours as I think they contrast
well together. In my school student magazine cover I used
green, yellow as these colours represent St Peters.
My cover image for the school student magazine was a close
up shot of the side of his face of him reading a book in the
school library. This image used no additional effect in
Photoshop, leaving the background of the library to show
more in the photo.
For my music magazine, I used the same person for my
photo shoot. I used a backdrop so that I could crop the photo
a lot easier as it was on a white background. Using
professional camera equipment ensured a clean and
polished exposure which was further enhanced in Photoshop
using brightness and contrast, I also learned the ability to
crop the background away from the artist onto a new layer
and placed the image in front of the masthead to make it
look more aesthetically pleasing.
6. On the left hand side of my contents page, i have the
features, interviews and editors letter in separate
boxes. I have only have one image again as It looks
a lot more neater and not squashed if I had another
photo. This photo is of the same person throughout
my magazine. I used a backdrop as It is easier to
crop out when editing in Photoshop.
I have the same colour scheme as on my cover and
article. The text is the same size as it is a reasonable
size as it is not too big or too small to read. The
biggest size font is my masthead as that needs to
stand out to attract consumers. The space between
each sentence/line can also be adjusted for a
balanced and professional finish.
Layer styles have not been used for the majority of
the descriptive text to make it clear and simple for
the reader to understand. However, for my
headlines, mastheads etc; I use different creative
and unique fonts to make the magazine aesthetically
pleasing. In my student magazine contents page,
used a stroke line for most text thinking it would lift
the text making it seem more appealing. However,
this has the opposite effect and makes the page
looks messy and unprofessional. Therefore, I only
used strokes for main text such as masthead to
make it lift of the page and more appealing.
