Question 1
1. QUESTION 1: IN WHAT WAYS
DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF
REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS.
2. In all of these shots I have used forms and conventions to convey the genre of sci-fi and indie film. For
all of the shots I have carefully chosen each piece of the mise-en-sene to portray the genre that I have
chosen. I have also used stereotypes to reinforce these conventions in my film, I used a young teen
as the actor because teens stereotypically challenge rules and ideas to explore as they grow older. I
also made sure to have my actor wear a comic t-shirt to show that he is a fan of comics and
stereotypically a very intelligent.
3. FRAME 1.
For this shot I only captured my actors bottom half because the genre that I was
aiming for was sci-fi and I wanted to leave the mystery of his identity because
this is used in sci-fi a lot as a way of grabbing the attention of the audience. For
the costume I chose to have my actor wear a comic book t-shirt and joggers
because I wanted to portray a fan of film and sci-fi comics that would also give
more reason for the main character to question time and learn about time travel.
This is conforming to the forms and conventions of the genre and I have
developed it to suit my idea of sci-fi and mystery because in many sci-fi films
like Tomorrow land that uses the same stereotype of a young fan of comics and
science fiction.
4. FRAME 2.
For this shot I focused on the watch and hand because I wanted to emphasize the
importance of the watch in the story to help show the theme of time and time
travel. I chose a watch that was yellow and black because these are colours that
are associated with hazards and danger and this is because the idea of time
travel stereotypically has many hazards and dangers. I chose to use the beach as
the location because stereotypically people take long walks and contemplate
things, also it is a wide open expanse of unexplored sea that could represent the
massive expanse of space and time.
5. FRAME 3.
For this shot I chose to use a medium close shot because I wanted to make the
actor look small against the expanse of the sea that is a massive and he is a
small, I used this to show the contemplation of the character. I wanted the actor to
wear a hooddie and tracksuits because I wanted him to look like him and his
family are middle class and so stereotypically he would be wearing these clothes.
6. FRAME 4.
In this shot I changed the iso of the camera to get more of a cool colour
because stereotypically cool colours are used to show sadness and melancholy.
I used this as a end shot to show that he is still contemplating his future and it
adds a narrative enigma to the end before the theoretical film starts.
