Evaluation: Question 1
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventional of real
media products.
1) The title of my magazine.
My magazine challenges the
conventional of real media products and
this is because my front cover doesn’t
have the title across the top like any other
magazine as I have merged the title and
logo together.
2) The fonts and its style.
Like any other conventional magazine I kept the
font size the same for the topics inside magazine
but different font size and font for the category
title. This is because in my research I have found
that different size and fonts are used for the
category to make it stand out from the story topic.
3) The Layout
The layout of my contents page is very simple and
conventional as I have put the featured topics on both
sides like the RNB “Vibe” magazine. However, the
underlining with different colour with the story topic at
the top is unconventional and challenges the product of
real media product as this concept has never been
used before in a music magazine. The front page is
conventional as it has a one person on it with some
written contents on it and also the inside page.
4) Mise-en-scene
The picture used in my magazine are
conventional as the pictures that I
have used are of different style and
posture just like the pictures used in
the RnB magazine “Vibe” and this
shows that the people in the picture
are comfortable in their own ways
giving the illustration of them having
fun and that they have liberty. Also,
it’s conventional because I used put a
picture of the person at the front
page, contents and inside.
Also the costume that they are
wearing fits the genre of my
magazine because as it follows the
RnB magazine conventional codes
as the singers in RnB magazine
wears black clothes or leather jacket
and jewellery.
5) The written contents
My inside page is conventional like the real media product
and this is because I have a quote and written article using
the 4 Ws like that of a real inside page so my audience will
read it and know about what’s going on. But the quote that
I put on the picture with big quotation mark challenges the
real media product because it makes it clear about who
stated it and it has not been written out like that in any
other RnB magazine.
My contents page follows the codes and conventional of a
real magazine as it covers the similar topics and of any
music magazine for example, the Britney's Top 10 which
you can find in any magazine aimed at teenage audience
because they would like to know about it. However, I think
it also challenges the real media contents page because I
included the topics such as Leona Lewis’ engagement
which you won’t find in music magazines and fits perfectly
for a teenage audience who takes keen interest in those
celeb gossips.
6) The People
The people featured in my
picture are unconventional
and this is because they are
not singers and are young,
they are not like the people
in the “Vibe” magazine. They
are a suitable age group for
my targeted audience who
are teenagers.
Moreover, I have featured
both gender but mostly girls
as this is a magazine for girls
but also created it to make it
suitable for both gender.
7) Music Genre And How Your Magazine
Suggest It.
My music magazine genre is RnB. My magazine shows this throw
the conventional use of picture and quick and short magazine
names such as the name of the existing magazine “Vibe” and my
magazine is called “Lemz”.
The colour and the style of fonts I have used throughout my
magazine also suggests it because in my research I found that they
mostly use the colour blue, yellow, and black. The RnB magazines
tends to use big and bold font styles and use more than just one
font style such as Engravers Mt and Helvetica which I have used on
my magazine to suggests it’s RnB and to follow the codes and
conventional.
The picture featured in my magazine suggests the music genre and
this is because in my research I found that the people on the picture
wears black clothes with heavy jewellery and has aggressive facial
expressions, etc.
