In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
Eye Contact- My ‘Model’ makes eye contact with
the camera which is a convention of a music
magazine, I did this because it means the ‘artist’
is more likely to connect with the audience.
The artist Isn’t in the Center Of The Page which
isn’t a convention of a music magazine which is
something I need to change.
The Cover Photo Links To The Headline, the
image is of the artist (‘Jacob Foster’), I did this so
the audience can visually see the artist and
recognize him straight away.
Nothing Covers The Artist’s Face- I have arranged
the masthead to be behind my ‘artist’s’ head
(‘Jacob Foster’) because I want him to stand out.
The Background Is One Colour so that the focus
is on the artist.
I have located it at the top of my music magazine page, so if it was sold on shelves
the masthead would be the first thing you see.
It is a Different Font to the other text on the page, this is to that I can establish
recognizable font that is only associated with my music magazine, it acts a bit like
a logo. I have also made the masthead a different colour to show this.
Biggest Font On The Page- I have made sure that the masthead is the biggest font
on the page to establish it as the masthead and so the audience can clearly see the
name of the magazine (‘Pop People’).
On The Side of the page, aligned to the right of the artist, there is text. I have
made sure that the Text Doesn’t go on my artist, who is basically in the center.
I have put all the cover lines on one side, So It’s Easy to see all of them all at the
same time.
I have put the Artists Name in big text and a unique font, so his name stands out,
so it’ll encourage more people to buy the magazine if they’re fans of him.
The Convention Of The Headline Is:
The Name Of The Artist in the cover photo- in this case ‘Jacob Foster’.
It is the Second Biggest Text on the page- I have done this deliberately because as
‘Jacob Foster’ is a new upcoming artist, so a lot of people won’t know him at first
glance, so I have made the text of his name big. I have done this so he doesn’t get
ignored.
It also generally has a sentence under the Headline or a Quote from the
artist during the interview, I have included both of these things.
This is the
features column
for ‘Q magazine’,
I took big
inspiration from
this contents
page and based
my contents
page around it.
I have based my
contents page on Q
Magazine’s content
page, I have set the
numbers in a similar
way, put my artist’s
name in bold and
elaborated in the
text.
I only used two columns for
my content page.
I did this because I didn’t
want my content page to
look too much/ look
overcrowded. At the same
time I wanted it to look
professional, I wanted it to
look like a real pop music
magazine. I think if added
anymore columns it may
have caused confusion and
people may think it is a
rock magazine which
obviously it is not, so I have
only included two columns.
On the contents page I have included one picture of the cover artist, I have made
this the biggest image on the page to show that he is the person the magazine is
focusing on. I have also included another picture lower down of the contents
page, I have included a picture of a feature artist, ‘Noah Lenagan’, I have made
sure that it’s a smaller image so he doesn’t outshine Jacob Foster, I have done this
because he isn’t the star, Jacob is. By adding another picture makes my magazine
look more professional and having a feature artist makes my magazine look like a
real one.
The Page Title- I took inspiration from Q magazine’s content Page Title, I took
how it was put in bold and formatted in a large font, I liked the way Q magazine
did it, so I took inspiration from it and made my title similar.
The Name Of The Music Magazine- I have kept the same font, so people won’t
have to necessary read the content page title to know what magazine is because of
the font.
f
Positioned at the top of the article, I
have used this pull quote because it
draws people in, so people will see
that quote and want to read on.
Rhetorical Question- I have used a
rhetorical question to drag the reader
in, this will drag them in as they will
read that and want to find the
answer, which will be in the article,
so they’ll read on.
Topic Of Discussion- This could be
a place where a quote from the
artist’s interview will be there and a
little summary on what the article
is about, like I have done here.
Drop Cap- I have included a drop cap to
start my article because it stands out and
draws the audience to the page, it is
signifies the start of the interview.
The article is split into two columns- Like
My Contents Page- easy to read.
Colours are matching the house style of the magazine, Red/yellow, the title is at
the top of the page which is conventional of a music magazine, I have done this
because it makes it look better and more professional.
I have used a Rhetorical Question, this makes the reader wonder who he is and
want to find out more about him. What’s next for him, the reader will have heard
of him from his band ‘No Jam’ and will want to know what’s next for him, having
that headline suggests that the article has the answer, so the reader will read on.
The Colour scheme of my magazine is blue, white, red, black and yellow. Black
and white are typically quite sophisticated colours, whereas yellow, blue and red
add the brightness and the fun to pop music.
I have used Images all taken by me on my music magazine, I haven’t included any
videos or animations as the magazine will be printed out, so they wouldn’t work,
therefore meaning that it wouldn’t be suitable.
I have considered different Fonts and have chosen ones that are bold and clear to
read, keeping my genre in mind when choosing.
Q2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
 I have presented my magazine as being a pop magazine as
it is called “Pop Magazine” which obviously gives a clear
indication that it is a pop music magazine.
 I have presented a young person to my audience, this once
again shows how my music magazine represents pop as
pop is most popular with the younger generation.
 My ‘model’ is wearing normal everyday clothes to further
show that my music magazine is a pop music magazine.
 He is a male which suggests that the music magazine is
more directed at males than females.
 I have presented my magazine as being a pop magazine as
it is called “Pop Magazine” which obviously gives a clear
indication that it is a pop music magazine.

Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
 The company that I think would publish my magazine
would be ‘Spin Media.’ I think it would be them because
they produce ‘Vibe’ and this magazine is similar to mine, it
has a similar style to mine.
 My magazine I based for people who likes the genre ‘pop’,
so ‘Spin Media’ would be the best company to own my
magazine because they own Vibe which is a pop music
magazine, so they would be the best option as the company
to won my magazine.
 The Company would need a big budget for my music
magazine as it includes big stars in it and the need for a
good picture. This further shows that ‘Spin Media’ would
be the best company option for my music magazine as it
clearly has a big budget, so could meet my demands.
Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Bill is 20 years old, Single and
works part time as a Tesco shop
assistant. He is who I’d expect to
buy my music magazine.
His favorite artist/band of all
time is: Coldplay.
And his hero is: David Bowie,
(His mum listened to him when
he was younger, so he did as
well).
Ed Sheeran:
Ellie Goulding:
Take That:
Justin Bieber
 I have addressed the audience informally as my
magazine is targeted for ages 13-33 years old, so the
style of my article is quite informal.
 This is a way in connecting with the audience as I’m
using the sort of language they would use.
 They are likely to buy my magazine at a supermarket,
possibly Tescos or Sainsburys etc.

  • 3. Eye Contact- My ‘Model’ makes eye contact with the camera which is a convention of a music magazine, I did this because it means the ‘artist’ is more likely to connect with the audience. The artist Isn’t in the Center Of The Page which isn’t a convention of a music magazine which is something I need to change. The Cover Photo Links To The Headline, the image is of the artist (‘Jacob Foster’), I did this so the audience can visually see the artist and recognize him straight away. Nothing Covers The Artist’s Face- I have arranged the masthead to be behind my ‘artist’s’ head (‘Jacob Foster’) because I want him to stand out. The Background Is One Colour so that the focus is on the artist.
  • 4. I have located it at the top of my music magazine page, so if it was sold on shelves the masthead would be the first thing you see. It is a Different Font to the other text on the page, this is to that I can establish recognizable font that is only associated with my music magazine, it acts a bit like a logo. I have also made the masthead a different colour to show this. Biggest Font On The Page- I have made sure that the masthead is the biggest font on the page to establish it as the masthead and so the audience can clearly see the name of the magazine (‘Pop People’).
  • 5. On The Side of the page, aligned to the right of the artist, there is text. I have made sure that the Text Doesn’t go on my artist, who is basically in the center. I have put all the cover lines on one side, So It’s Easy to see all of them all at the same time. I have put the Artists Name in big text and a unique font, so his name stands out, so it’ll encourage more people to buy the magazine if they’re fans of him.
  • 6. The Convention Of The Headline Is: The Name Of The Artist in the cover photo- in this case ‘Jacob Foster’. It is the Second Biggest Text on the page- I have done this deliberately because as ‘Jacob Foster’ is a new upcoming artist, so a lot of people won’t know him at first glance, so I have made the text of his name big. I have done this so he doesn’t get ignored. It also generally has a sentence under the Headline or a Quote from the artist during the interview, I have included both of these things.

  • 8. This is the features column for ‘Q magazine’, I took big inspiration from this contents page and based my contents page around it. I have based my contents page on Q Magazine’s content page, I have set the numbers in a similar way, put my artist’s name in bold and elaborated in the text. I only used two columns for my content page. I did this because I didn’t want my content page to look too much/ look overcrowded. At the same time I wanted it to look professional, I wanted it to look like a real pop music magazine. I think if added anymore columns it may have caused confusion and people may think it is a rock magazine which obviously it is not, so I have only included two columns.
  • 9. On the contents page I have included one picture of the cover artist, I have made this the biggest image on the page to show that he is the person the magazine is focusing on. I have also included another picture lower down of the contents page, I have included a picture of a feature artist, ‘Noah Lenagan’, I have made sure that it’s a smaller image so he doesn’t outshine Jacob Foster, I have done this because he isn’t the star, Jacob is. By adding another picture makes my magazine look more professional and having a feature artist makes my magazine look like a real one.
  • 10. The Page Title- I took inspiration from Q magazine’s content Page Title, I took how it was put in bold and formatted in a large font, I liked the way Q magazine did it, so I took inspiration from it and made my title similar. The Name Of The Music Magazine- I have kept the same font, so people won’t have to necessary read the content page title to know what magazine is because of the font.

  • 13. Positioned at the top of the article, I have used this pull quote because it draws people in, so people will see that quote and want to read on. Rhetorical Question- I have used a rhetorical question to drag the reader in, this will drag them in as they will read that and want to find the answer, which will be in the article, so they’ll read on. Topic Of Discussion- This could be a place where a quote from the artist’s interview will be there and a little summary on what the article is about, like I have done here.
  • 14. Drop Cap- I have included a drop cap to start my article because it stands out and draws the audience to the page, it is signifies the start of the interview. The article is split into two columns- Like My Contents Page- easy to read.
  • 15. Colours are matching the house style of the magazine, Red/yellow, the title is at the top of the page which is conventional of a music magazine, I have done this because it makes it look better and more professional. I have used a Rhetorical Question, this makes the reader wonder who he is and want to find out more about him. What’s next for him, the reader will have heard of him from his band ‘No Jam’ and will want to know what’s next for him, having that headline suggests that the article has the answer, so the reader will read on.
  • 16. The Colour scheme of my magazine is blue, white, red, black and yellow. Black and white are typically quite sophisticated colours, whereas yellow, blue and red add the brightness and the fun to pop music. I have used Images all taken by me on my music magazine, I haven’t included any videos or animations as the magazine will be printed out, so they wouldn’t work, therefore meaning that it wouldn’t be suitable. I have considered different Fonts and have chosen ones that are bold and clear to read, keeping my genre in mind when choosing.
  • 17. Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • 18.
  • 19.  I have presented my magazine as being a pop magazine as it is called “Pop Magazine” which obviously gives a clear indication that it is a pop music magazine.  I have presented a young person to my audience, this once again shows how my music magazine represents pop as pop is most popular with the younger generation.  My ‘model’ is wearing normal everyday clothes to further show that my music magazine is a pop music magazine.  He is a male which suggests that the music magazine is more directed at males than females.

  • 24. Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • 25.
  • 26.  The company that I think would publish my magazine would be ‘Spin Media.’ I think it would be them because they produce ‘Vibe’ and this magazine is similar to mine, it has a similar style to mine.  My magazine I based for people who likes the genre ‘pop’, so ‘Spin Media’ would be the best company to own my magazine because they own Vibe which is a pop music magazine, so they would be the best option as the company to won my magazine.  The Company would need a big budget for my music magazine as it includes big stars in it and the need for a good picture. This further shows that ‘Spin Media’ would be the best company option for my music magazine as it clearly has a big budget, so could meet my demands.

  • 29.  I have addressed the audience informally as my magazine is targeted for ages 13-33 years old, so the style of my article is quite informal.  This is a way in connecting with the audience as I’m using the sort of language they would use.  They are likely to buy my magazine at a supermarket, possibly Tescos or Sainsburys etc.
