3.What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? After doing some research into publishers that would distribute a new music magazine, I cam across “Future” who publish many largely established music magazines which are tied in with the genre and style of music magazine that I have created. They already publish “Metal Hammer” and various guitar based magazines and they are still fairly “new” on the publishing market, which could allow them to publish more magazines so they could expand their base. This would also allow new magazines to gain a platform in the publishing market, much like the product I have created.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product? The audience that I had initially targeted my media product at were both genders between the ages of 14-40, because hardcore is constantly evolving and older bands are releasing new material and announcing tours, I still have to cater for older music fans which is why I have given the magazine a considerably large age bracket, also because new bands are emerging all the time I decided to give it a fairly young age bracket for the genre because it would allow younger fans to become engaged in the genre.
The people I took photos of for the double paged spread and the front come into the younger half of the age bracket, which would further draw in a younger crowd because they would be able to be associate with the people featured on the cover.
5. How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted my audience by featuring a fairly new and young band, which I had created purposely for the magazine, with a young new and exciting band, people are going to want to read about them. So in theory with the promise of a story on a new upcoming exciting band I could then attract my target audience.
Also I addressed my audience quite informally in keeping with the style of music which the magazine is about, the double page spread article was done as an interview which used fairly informal language and slang which fans of the genre have been known to use.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have bettered my understanding of the adobe design programmes such as photoshop and in design, because these are the main two programmes which I had used to create the pages of my magazine, also using some of the innovative tools in photoshop to create better photo edits so that they could be used in the magazine.
Also using online internet programmes such as Dafont.com to find an appropriate font for headlines, and importing the image into photoshop so it could be better edited.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I feel that I have overall furthered my understanding of the conventions of magazine pages, I also feel that my understanding of how to use design programmes has become better.
I now feel fairly confident in using such design programmes, and in my understanding of genre conventions and magazine conventions.
