WHAT I HAVE LEARNT FROM THE
PROGRESSION OF MY PRELIMINARY TASK
FRONT COVER TO MY FINAL PRODUCT?
As you can see I have learnt so much since the making of my preliminary task to my final
product. I have learnt how to cut out pictures which I have taken, because I did not know
how too cut out my pictures during the making of the preliminary front cover. I have learnt
how take better pictures by getting a close up view rather than a body shot, I have learnt
which colours work well together because some of the yellow text on the white background
can be hard to read. Whereas the text on my final product is easily readable.
Differences & improvements
There are many differences and improvements between my preliminary front cover to my
final product, for example, the size of the masthead in the preliminary task is much more
smaller compared to my other magazine, I felt like this needed to change because the
masthead needs to be able to stand out and act like the main piece of text, hence why I
made it much bigger in the final product. Another improvement which I have made is adding
more graphics to my work, for instance the circle behind the “CD inside” on my final product,
or adding a triangle around the price, however I did use some graphics in my preliminary
task like the black rectangle behind the masthead and the price, or the bullet points at the
bottom of the page, but I felt these looked boring and bland and didn’t stand out enough, so
I made look bigger and brighter in my final product. They are many differences between the
two front covers, the colours of text, picture used, how the picture was taken, size of text,
colour of the backgrounds, different fonts and just much more text on my final product.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT FROM THE
PROGRESSION OF MY PRELIMINARY TASK
CONTENTS PAGE AND MY FINAL CONTENTS
PAGE
Between the two pictures I have made a lot of progress, I know how to use sub-headings effectively
because in my preliminary task the sub-headings are the same colour as the information below the sub-
headings. So in my final product I wanted to have the number colour, sub-headings and information all
three different colours, therefore it is much more easy to read and makes the page much more easy to
navigate. I learnt how to use more forms and conventions such as graphics in my final work, for example I
used all sort of different rectangles some different colour to give the page a bit more flair and effect,
whereas in my preliminary task I just used arrows which are the colour yellow. Lastly, I used information
below the sub-heading in my final contents page because it tells the reader a bit more information about the
what the sub-headings is about, however I didn’t use any information in my preliminary contents page
therefore the page looks dull and doesn’t have a enough contents on it.
Differences & Improvements
From analysing both contents pages there are many differences and improvements between them. Firstly, the
background the colour in my final piece of work is light grey background from the left but then starts turning
more darker and end in a more darker colour grey from left to right. Secondly, another difference is the amount
of images I had used, I used two images in the preliminary task and only one image in my contents page, I
chose to have one image because from many other contents pages I had researched most of them had one
large image covering the majority of one half of the page. Also the colour and size of the text is different
between them both, and varies colour on my final contents page, my preliminary task contents page has only
two colours on the whole page which shows repetition therefore the page looks boring, so I wanted to add more
colours which I have done for my final contents page by adding one more colour, I chose to add one more
colour because adding too many colours can make the page look all over the place but mainly because I
wanted to keep the same colours as I have done for my magazine front cover as both pages look of the same
genre and look some of the same, and also the colours contrast well together.
