Looking back at my preliminary task, I have a learned lot more as to what
is needed in a magazine and that I have used this knowledge to improve
my way of producing a magazine. Back when I started, I wasn’t too sure
on what was needed to make my magazine look believable. I felt like I
knew what images had to be Included, however, I wasn’t too clear on the
layout. The main image is what I wanted it to be but it doesn’t stand out
as there is nothing to it to make it exciting. Also, I had a font in mind for
the masthead for my student magazine, however, I was unable to find a
font that was anyway similar to
it and so I thought that the font
                              used instead would be good
enough. But looking back , I
know realise that it looks very
simple and there is nothing to
make it stand out. On the main
task, I gave the masthead a
black background and stuck to a
colour scheme so it doesn’t look
                                      disorganised.
The contents page that I produced for my preliminary task has been
improved a lot. In my student magazine contents page, there is a lot of
empty space and at the bottom of the page, it seems like I have tried to
fill that in and failed to reach that aim. This has made my contents page
look very weak and unprofessional. However, for the main task, I was able
to fill in the empty space with names of artists and I found it to difficult
to fill in that space as I was unable to do that for the preliminary task. I
now know that I could filled up that space with names of subjects,
teachers etc.
Also, my music magazine has a
                           more organised layout and is
easier to read. It also sticks to
the colour scheme used on the
front cover which shows it is still
                           the same magazine. Whereas on
my student magazine, there is no
                           colour scheme and so the
contents page looks like it could
                           belong to another magazine.
Overall, I have definitely improved my
“magazine-making” skills. I used Adobe
Photoshop and InDesign for both projects
and it is clear that I have become more
enhanced at using both software's. I am now
more aware of empty space on a magazine
and where to place images and texts to suit
the magazine. I am also more able to find a
suitable colour scheme so that each page in
the magazine connects with one another.
