1. Evaluation Task 7
Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine
task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to you full product?
2. Front Covers
Here are both of my final front covers. My preliminary task
works well because the image mise-en-scene contrasts well
with the school logo, masthead and other text. All of the
colours interlink and make the image look quite professional. I
think I have followed more conventions however in my final
piece, I have used a barcode as well as listed many artists and
features of my magazine.
The font styles which I used in my preliminary task are plain
and don't particularly appeal to my target audience, students.
On the other hand on my final music magazine front page I
have used appealing fonts which appeal to my target audience
more, the hierarchical font sizes which I used also make
elements of the page stand out creating a full page, making the
reader think they are getting lots of content within the
magazine for their money. I feel there is a clear progression
shown between my work; my second piece uses a number of
conventions which create a professional outcome.
3. Contents pages
I feel I grasped the structure of a contents page well in
both my initial and final piece, following many
conventions. In my preliminary task I used images found
on the school website which provided appropriate ides
for content for the magazine. Although I think the page
works well with different coloured text to highlight
particular points and headings, I don’t think the content
engages with my target audience; therefore I think this is
the main progression you can see. I feel that although I
didn’t vary font colours in my final piece by using
different font sizes as well as bold the text is broken up a
lot more than my first piece making it easier to read.
In my first magazine the text is small and hard t read,
also the page numbers don't stand out making the text
hard to read. Some of the text directions don’t fit with
magazine conventions such as on the right hand side, the
images of the individuals should be larger to fit with the
convention of columns.
4. Double page spread
I didn’t create a double page spread for my preliminary task, however I think the
finished piece is a lot more developed and uses many techniques which I learnt
after creating my preliminary task.
5. What do I feel I have learnt?
I have learnt many techniques in the process of completing my
coursework. I developed my knowledge of the picture editing
software I was using (Photoshop and iPiccy) and the tools which
were available on each of these. By learning more about editing
images it enabled my final pieces to look professional as well as to a
higher standard.
I also learnt more about why I needed to use particular techniques
such as using relatable language, resizing images on Photoshop,
using consistent background colours and formatting text. I used all
of these techniques to ensure that my magazine uses some generic
conventions, the outcome looks professional and that it connects
with audience i.e. grabbing my target audiences attention.
