Q5. How did you attract/address your audience?
From the market research that I carried out I found that the target audience should be 16-20 and
mainly females. I believe that my magazine does attract this particular demographic. Firstly, I asked
the age of the person doing the questionnaire. In my results I found the demographic that my
magazine should target and used this knowledge when creating my final products. For example, the
female on the front cover of my product is a 17 year old girl whom I believe successfully addresses
the audience as they are a similar age. Also, when shooting the photographs for my front cover I had
her looking into the camera. This direct mode of address will be successful in attracting the
audience.
I also found that the masthead should be similar looking to Q and NME as they were magazines that
people said they most read. Therefore, if my magazine shares similarities with those two, it will
attract a wider audience as it is obviously a well-known design. The research I carried out also shows
what font I should use. I knew that it should be a relatively formal font to maintain a professional
standard so I decided to use the font ‘Californian FB’. I believe this font is simple and so does not
take attention away from the main contents of the magazine but it is also a font that flows and can
be easily read.

that it should have interviews and plenty of pictures so I made sure to include a question and answer
style interview on my double page spread. The photography I used on my contents page also attracts
the audience as they involve close ups of two females wearing a pair of headphones so directly
relates the music genre. Also, one of the pictures shows a guitar which again attracts and addresses
the target audience as they said they wanted pictures with instruments etc.
