Question 5
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Attract
One way I attracted my audience to my media product was by the idea of that I put a
competition in to win Beyoncé tickets. I did this as a large majority of my audience
would be a Beyoncé fan as it fits into my genre. Also the are VIP and so having that
featured would help more as not only would they be free the are limited tickets and
so would attract to them immediately.
Another convention I have used to appeal to my audience is I have included posters
of Rihanna inside which would also attract my audience to buy my media product as
Rihanna is a very popular artist to fit in my genre.
Also to attract my audience to my magazine is that I have made the price
reasonable for my audience age to afford. I made it £2.oo as when I asked my
audience how much they would spend this came back as the response and so I
knew this would attract them. Also compared to some other magazines this can be
seen as reasonably cheap as now more magazine are raising their prices.
My Masthead of ‘Exclusive first interview with Abi Lee’ would also attract to my
audience. This is because the buzz work ‘Exclusive’ makes the reader feel like they
will be the first and only person to see the article and so makes my product more
personal. Also as it is the very first article they will want to be the first person to
read it so they feel like they heard the information first.
The photographs attract to my audience as I have used models who are the
same age of who my magazine attracts. This would attract my audience as they
can relate to similar interests and also might look at them as role models. Also
my pictures are female dominated and so this attracts my female dominated
audience to the magazine. Also on the pictures I have styled them and posed
them in a way that would attract my audience as if my audience was also into
fashion, make up and hair ect, they might take interest into this side of my
photography used.
The layout of my front cover will attract to my audience as it is organised,
simple and easy to follow. This could link to the idea that females tend to see
more organised layouts more aesthetically pleasing and so would draw them
in more than say a rock magazine with lots of features on the front cover with
a more laid back approach.
The colours I have used to design my own music magazine would attract my
audience for many different reasons. Firstly, when I directly asked my
audience what types of colours they would like to see featured in my
magazine I got many responses and the colours I have used such as red,
purple and grey said would appeal to them and so I know that this would
attract them. Also they are quite feminine and girly colours and so would
suit a more female dominated audience. Also they would attract a more
teenage age group as they are more mature colours then something like a
baby pink and baby blue which could be seen on a more younger age group
magazine.
The layout of my double page spread attracts my audience as I went for a
simple layout as on my audience research my target audience said they
preferred more simpler layouts to more compact styles. Also the idea of my
writing being in four separate coloumns makes it more professional. At first I
created this page on PhotoShop but my final design is done on InDesign as
when I created this on PhotoShop it didn’t have a colomn tool and so my
writing was just all together and so the crease which would be in the middle of
the page would of gone through the writing and made it difficult to read and so
creating it on InDesign had a column tool and so this problem would not occur.
The layout for my contents page would attract to my audience as again it is
very easy to understand and follow. Also the idea of having all the images
down one side and all the text down the other could show a simple format
and so as there is not lots of information on the page it looks tidy. Also
because the only text on my page is what is featured on each page on my
magazine could make the reader intrigued as they would want to know
what it is on about and so would make them want to go and look at the
articles or competitions.
Type of branding and
advertisement which
would be found in my
magazine to attract and
address my audience.
Address
One example in which my media product has addressed my audience is
that I took my photographs for my front cover, one in my contents page
and also for my double page spread in a room with a white background
as it shows a relaxed environment and also a level of professionalism as
they could relate to be similar of those being taken in a studio. This
could also represent a more middle class approach which would address
to my audience.
My other contents page photograph was take outside. I decided to use
this in my own media product as there was a slight bit of wind and so
created a very slight wind effect on my models hair which also could show
professionalism. This would address to my audience as again it shows a
more middle class appeal. If I taken my pictures outside in a more run
down scenery this would show a more working class level, however I
choose a place outside which had a plain background and also the
handrail the model is holding onto helps as it helps the image have a more
posed feel to it.
The style of my pictures address my audience as I have posed my models
in all of my photographs I took. This would address my audience as it
shows to my audience feministic features and also a more teenage youth
approach and so can relate more to what is going on.
Another example of how I have addressed my media product to my audience is
by the wardrobe choices I made. For example the models are wearing skirts
and dresses so automatically would appeal very much for women more than
men. Also I have used props such as a mirror and make up brushes which
communicates across to the audience girly and teenage youth appeal and
attraction. Also because of this it could make my audience relate to it and also
aspire to the images I have took.
I have also addressed my audience in they style of writing I have used. For
example the writing I have gone for has a more formal tone to it and so
would appeal to the class in society of middle class as I have used a more
formal lexis. Also the lexis in my writing addresses the idea to my audience
that the genre of the magazine is music as I have used words such as
‘touring’, ‘song’, ‘music’ ect, and so the reader can easily see straight away
what the magazine and articles are about.
