Proposal:
Type of magazine I am going to create:
The type of magazine I am going to create is a pop teen magazine. This would include things like
exclusive interviews, posters etc. the name that I have decided for my magazine is ‘Poptastic’ this is
because my sub-genre of my magazine is teen pop and the title has reference to the sub-genre
hence the ‘pop’.
Explanation of choice of genre:
The reason for why I chose to do teen pop is because I feel it is a genre that is easier to approach an
audience towards also it is a genre that I personally have an interest towards. The magazine that I
used for influential purposes throughout my research is ‘we love pop’ therefore my magazine shall
inspire to be similar than ‘we love pop’.
Target audience:
The target audience re similar of those for ‘we love pop’. This includes young females between the
ages of 13-16 the initial audience for the sub-genre teen pop is aimed towards this age group. Also I
have an interest in teen pop therefore I’d be able to meet the needs of my chosen magazine and
towards its target audience.
Initial ideas about front page:
I have a few ideas for my cover page; the main image would be a mid-shot of my music artist who
shall be in a friendly pose when the picture is taken as this connotes well-being and positivity of the
magazine and also suggests that the magazine is full of new explorations to encourage the reader to
purchase the magazine. The positioning of the logo would be the top left; this is because this is a
typical convention of all magazines and will therefore make my magazine look professional and
formal. My logo shall overlap the main image if need be to make it stand out and give my magazine
recognition. The colours that I have decided to use throughout the magazine are pink, yellow and
white as these colours are stereotypically feminine colours and as my magazine is aimed towards
young teenagers I feel using these colours shall draw their attention in.
Initial ideas about contents page:
On the contents page, to indicate where the pages are, and what they shall contain, the numbers
shall be big and bold in order for it to stand out and also shall be easier for my target audience to
read and would be easier to follow. Also the language throughout the contents shall approach the
audience in an informal manner as it would be more direct towards the target audience and shall
make them feel more valued and appreciated.
Initial ideas about double page spread:
The double page spread shall consist of an interview discussing the music artist which would include
features such quote drops, this is a typical feature of interviews in magazines, it keeps the audience
intrigued and they know what to expect from the issue. One page shall consist of the interview and
the second page shall be a image of my music artist, which shall also be a poster. As my focus group
stated that they expect teen pop magazines to consist of free posters for the readers as this would
make readers want to know what the second issue shall be about. This is also a typical feature used
within music magazines and this would aid in my magazine looing professional.
