The document discusses how the media product represents social groups through its cover model. The cover model wears stereotypical "street" clothing like a hoodie and tracksuit but is also glamorously made up, challenging stereotypes by showing that success has nothing to do with appearance or clothing. The magazine aims to represent both genders by using attractive female models with makeup in high-key lighting, appealing to its target audience. The artists portrayed have optimistic, energetic expressions representative of pop and electronic music genres that promote living life to the fullest.

Immigration: Should We Keep America's Doors OpenKim Moore
Teaching students think independently in order to know how to answer "the hard questions" is even more important today than ever before in recorded history. They are bombarded with access to information as never before which means it is ofthe utmost important that they know how to analyze a question and answer it based on the information that they gather based on all sides of an issue. Media-bias can influence a person's thinking and bad decision making can be the result.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Q2 How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. How does your media
product represent particular
social groups?
QUESTION 2 JABIR ZAMAN
2. Stereotypes and Make-Up
I have challenged stereotypes as the cover star of my magazine and main
model is wearing stereotypical ‘street’ clothing which includes a hoody
and a tracksuit and is she is wearing makeup and looking glamourous.
This denotes that anyone can be successful and that you should not judge
a book by its cover and be prejudiced into thinking that if you are
wearing a certain type of clothing you should be doing this specific thing.
In this context, just because my model is wearing a hoody and tracksuit
does not mean she is a rap or grime artist.
Regarding make up,
My magazine was primarily focused towards both genders as I used
glamorous models (mostly female) with high key lighting as it reflects the
genres of Pop and Electronic. The use of make-up will make my models
look attractive and will definitely catch the attention of the males in my
target audience.
3. Body Language and Location
Body language and facial expression. My artists all give off an optimistic and energetic vibe which
is representative of the genres of my magazine. I was going for the happy look which allows my
artists to be seen as true pop and electronic artists, people who are living life to the fullest and
enjoying themselves and expressing themselves through the music that they produce.
Location
Graffiti art used as a background of a park near Brick Lane, this helps me give off the urban, ghetto
look I wanted to insinuate to my target audience of Yusra’s background and I chose this piece of
art specifically to remind them that it does not matter where you are from or what ‘ends’ you live
in, do not let stereotypes limit you or suppress your dreams in any way. You can achieve anything
with hard work and ignore other people’s belittlements. Thus the quote “Hard Work beats talent
when talent doesn’t work hard” which I included to inspire my target audience to go and chase
their dreams just like Yusra did and evoke a sense of happiness and hope in them.
4. My Main Model’s Background
My main model Yusra Khan is British Asian whose clothing represents her and the young generation of British
teenagers today. Visually, she simultaneously fits the stereotypical description of a typical British teenager living in
the deprived areas of London. She grew up in a family where her parents are immigrants who came to this country to
provide a better life. They were not rich back home in India thus making life for them and their family difficult in the
UK. They had very little income due to being not very educated. However, they did their best to fund Yusra and
support her in her dream of becoming a musician and ultimately, it paid off.
Though originally, due to her Asian Indian Heritage and culture, her parents were not very fond of the idea of her
becoming a musician. One of the reasons why was because she was female and they feared she would be the subject
of sexual objectifications and victim of misogyny. Furthermore, there are hardly any Indian Pop music artists and
Electric music artists out there, those two genres are dominated mostly by white people. Through this magazine, I
wanted to challenge the conventions of Pop and Electronic music by having an Indian Asian artist who is associated
with the genres.
All her childhood and before her rise to fame, Yusra was ridiculed for not conforming to the social norm of listening
and consuming rap and grime music which was and still is common with the youth of today. Instead, she preferred
Electric and Pop music which was not as common thus people viewed her as ‘weird’ for listening to those genres.
However, she ignored them and spent many years learning to play various instruments and various genres of music.
She even learnt how to rap and did enjoy elements of grime, even though they were not her preferred genres.
5. Message and Lexis
The message I want to denote is that diversity is wonderful and that you should not just limit yourself
to just one thing. In this case, Yusra made herself a ‘Jack of all Trades’ by learning different music
genres, thus making her a very successful musician in general, even though she primarily specialises in
Pop and Electric music.
Regarding the lexis of my media product, I had taken into consideration of my target audience of
teenagers and young adults and made sure the language is very casual and informal but not too
informal that it is extremely explicit to read. I did this because I did not want to bore my target
audience with excessive formality and all my models are young so it is expected that they would speak
with a bit of informality.
