Q2: how does your media product represent particular social group? By Tamanna Miah
Comparison/representation Our main character is a female who is being stalked by someone or something which isn’t seen in the opening of our film. I’ve compared her to the main character in “The Orphanage” who is also a female just like in our film so there are some similarities. Both the films represent women as they are victims. Women have a stereotype of being the weak ones than men whereas in our film and “The Orphanage” the female characters show a more brave side to them.
Our character Our lead female character is in her late 20s who lives a normal life with her husband and has a normal job. She is seen as the normal working class person. She is a kind and sensitive person like most other women. she’s a confident person which is something we would show in our film as she isn't afraid to investigate in to the mystery which is happening to her. She isn’t the type of person to care about beauty but cares more about the people around her such as her friends and family. She is seen as a normal figure towards women as she is not a bad influence but a person that most of our female target audience can relate to as she’s a warm character. Her attitude towards the paranormal activity around makes her unsecure but she doesn’t let it get to her as she goes out to investigate.
Orphanage character Laura is the typical mother figure in “The Orphanage” as she’s protective and loving over her family, especially her son. She can relate to most of the audience even if most of them aren't mother as many people are protective and loving over anybody such as their friends and other family members. She is a normal working class woman who earn money for her family and does social things with her friends. She is also a kind and sensitive person. She is also brave like our character. Her character is at first scared that her child disappears and starts to go crazy like most mothers will do if their child disappears our of nowhere. She too is seen as a weak person at first but once she startsto get paranoid of where her son could be she gets brave and starts looking for him by talking with the ghosts in her house.
