Question 2- How does your media
product represent particular social
groups?
By Tom Reaney
 The only male character that is shown in our film is a
male newscaster who is shown to be upset about
how the world is nearly over due to the virus.
However men are also the antagonists of the film as
the voice over suggests as they experiment on
females and in the process kill so many that they
believe there is no one else alive. This portrays the
male stereotype as being dominant and powerful
Male
 Our female protagonist is shown as a weak fragile character who is also strong
and independent as well. This is because she is the last female in the country
(and maybe the world) alive which obviously leads her to feel a sense of
isolation, also due to the men trying to hunt her she feels scared and fragile.
However, she is a contradiction of herself as she is shown to be a strong and
independent character who is able to survive on their own and hide from those
who are hunting her. Furthermore, the fact that she wears camo throughout the
film suggests that she is well equipped to survive wherever on her own.
 The portrayal of this female character throughout the film is breaking gender
stereotypes as often it is the men who are left alone to fend for themselves
whereas in this film we see a female being the lone survivor, struggling as
humanities last hope.
Female
 For our film we have chosen to represent white
British citizens.
 This is due to the restrictions we faced when finding
people to act in the film as the area is predominantly
white British. However, if this had been an actual film
produced then we would have been able to represent
different ethnicities, given the chance.
Ethnicity
 Teenager
 We have chosen to portray teenagers in our film as we feel it is the
easiest and best option to choose for our film considering the
circumstances of the film. Furthermore we feel that by having a teenage
protagonist is effective for us because it will allow the teenage audience
we are aiming for to relate to the main protagonist and almost give
them the idea that they are supporting her throughout her journey in
the film. In addition to this, we believe that by having a teenage
protagonist the target audience can relate more to them then they
would an adult or an elderly protagonist
