The document discusses the representation of social groups in the media product. It represents females exclusively through the characters of Kyra, Lilly, and Rhiannon. Kyra and Lilly can be seen as stereotypical emotional females, with Kyra killing out of revenge and Lilly letting emotions lead her to suicide. Rhiannon is a manipulative, controlling woman. The product only includes female characters and does not represent males. The characters are also all white British, representing ethnicity stereotypically. It explores how youth can be influenced by media to act on emotions like anger through revenge, and depicts bullying as something that just happens.

2. Gender
All of the characters were female, however my character (Kyra) could be seen as a stereotypical female
character as she was over emotional and killed out of revenge. On the other hand, the character Lilly could
be seen as a stereotypical female as she was also over emotional, and then let her emotions get the better
of her leading her to kill herself. The character Rhiannon could be seen as the manipulative controlling
woman as she says these horrible things to Lilly and basically controls her to end up killing herself.
The representation of gender was not equal throughout the play as It did not include any male characters.
This can make the film seem one of two ways, it could either seem like a strong feminist film or it could
show how woman are over emotional people who don’t rationalise things.
Kyra could be seen similar to that of Constance Langdon from American Horror Story who kills her
husband after finding him having an affair with their house maid. Constance is seen as a strong female
character however, as she refused herself her dream of becoming an actress because the only way she was
able to do it would be through nudity. Making her a feminist character. However, after killing her husband
and the maid she goes into a deep depression and ends up becoming an alcoholic. This is similar to my
character Kyra as she lets her anger and hurt take over and kills Rhiannon.

3. Ethnicity
Although ethnicity was not that important within our film I believe that the outcome of
the audience’s perceptions would change as by having someone with ethnic diversity
could then cause there to be some harsh stereotypes thrown on characters; however, I
believe it would not impact our storyline. The cast was allWhite-British, which is
stereotypical within the media of today.

4. Youth
Our thriller shows how much losing someone you care about to someone else’s harsh
words can hurt and how some may deal with it in more extreme ways than others. The
emotions that can run through a person are anger, disgust or confusion. Showing Kyra as
someone who would kill out of revenge shows how youth today can be highly influenced
by what they see and hear on media outlets such as news and films. By actually having a
‘bully’ character (Rhiannon) can show how bullying is also seen as something that simply
just happens and cannot be helped.
