Quarter 2 of the Bilingual Resource class is focused on improving English language skills. Students will work on speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills to help increase their scores on the WIDA English language proficiency tests. Assignments this quarter will have students practicing recounting and explaining texts as well as thinking critically about what they read in order to learn new academic vocabulary. Writing expectations include using proper grammar like capitalization and punctuation. Speaking exercises will prepare students for the upcoming ACCESS test.

 The end of the sentence
should have a period,

 The personal pronoun
“i” is always capitalized,
as in: I think, I am, and
I’m
 All contractions should
have an apostrophe:
can’t, won’t, and didn’t,
instead of cant, wont,
didnt.

 This quarter you will focus on improving the

means having the ability to summarize or
paraphrase what someone has written or said
 Teachers will ask students to explain why a
writer chose specific words, or used a specific
image, or included certain facts
 You will have to think critically about
everything that you read this quarter in order
to learn new academic language that will help
you with these skills
