The WIDA Screener is the first test taken by English Language Learners to identify their abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English. It consists of four parts: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The listening and reading sections use multiple choice questions that adjust based on the student's performance, moving from easier to harder. The speaking and writing sections require students to respond to prompts, which recordings are scored. Scores range from 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest level of English proficiency. The goal is for students to increase their scores each year to eventually test out of EL programs.
