The Story Of Caroline Curry s Essay
Shoot for the moon even if you miss you ll land among the stars, quote by Les Brown. Caroline Curry
did not technically shoot for the moon, but for the soccer goal instead. Making the decision to play
soccer was one she did not regret. I guess you could say it landed on the moon. It may not seem like a
big deal to take up a new sport, but joining soccer was vital to shaping her as a person. The story of
Caroline Curry deciding to play soccer is not an emotional one. I thought I was fat and I should play a
sport. Out of all the sports I thought soccer would be the most forgiving. Little did she know the
impact it would have on her life. After deciding to play soccer she signed up for Montgomery Soccer
Inc; a soccer association. After signing up she begins her sport. She had her first practice at Cedar
Grove Elementary School. 8 year old Caroline walked onto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After playing for only a little while Caroline improves her skills and communication, forms a close
bond with her teammates, and creates lifelong friends. She also says she lost some weight, a plus in
her book. Over the years more friends were made, experiences experienced, and lessons learned. If
you believe you can do it, you can do it! A quote straight from Caroline s heart. If you let in a goal or
don t play well it s ok, just push yourself to improvement. A more serious quote from Caroline. She
also learned that if you get a chance to take the easy way or the challenging way, the challenging way
is the way to go. The only regret Caroline has about this significant event is choosing to play rec
soccer instead of travel. It s crazy to think about what life would be like if a decision had not been
made. I would have probably not have been as good of friends with my current friends due to lack of
common interest. Instead I might have a closer group of friends because of a different extracurricular I
chose, Caroline

Literature Review on Corporate Culture
Management Literature Review
During the 1980s the concept of corporate culture captured the imagination of management
researchers and practitioners alike. In particular, Peters and Waterman s (1982) book entitled In Search
of Excellence: Lessons from America s Best Run Companies proclaimed that the key to corporate
success was a strongly unified corporate culture. Wilson (1996:87)
Corporate culture has always been a part of every business since it was first introduced in the 1980 s.
It doesn t matter if it s a small business or a massive company, corporate culture will always have an
involvement. Corporate culture is very hard to define as one particular meaning, due to the various
areas it covers. Glaser (1991:6) stated ...the folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without that sense of teamwork, employees would not be able to achieve their maximum level of
output, as they will feel as though they are on their own; that the work they produce will just end up as

be constructed, symbolised and engineered so as to transform employee values and behaviour, thereby
enhancing individual, and ultimately, organisational performance. Corporate culture provides a
Greater Good aspect to employees, all working together to achieve the same goal, as long as the
values they work by feel right to them.
An example of positive corporate culture increasing performance is Southwest Airlines. Sadri Lee
(2001:857) provides this statement CEO and co founder Herb Kelleher...encourages employees to be
very informal and have fun at their jobs...Kelleher fosters this type of culture by engaging in unusual
acts, such as arriving at shareholder meetings on a motorcycle wearing jeans and a t shirt, or holding a
2a.m. barbeque for the company s mechanics who work the night shift (Donlon, 1999)...Kelleher also
strives to value Southwest s employees, acknowledging births, deaths, marriages, and other events in
their lives by a note or card. Employees are encouraged to pitch in where needed, a fact that is evident
in airports where pilots are often seen checking passengers, for example. This

The Beginning Stages of an Internal Medicine Residency
After completing the first four years of medical school, you may think that you ve seen (and done) it
all... But starting your residency program is bound to teach you otherwise. A residency program like
the one offered as an internal medicine residency DC is bound to throw a few things in your direction
that you are unprepared for. To start on the right foot, it is important to clear your mind of all of the
things that you think you know, and go into your residency program with very few expectations. The
first few weeks of the program are bound to be overwhelming and new, despite the extensive
experience that you have had over the first years of your schooling, and it is important to rely on the
help that is available, as well as the experience of the senior residents and hospital or facility
employees.

The Iron Wall Essay
The Iron Wall
When reading the famous American magazine Time, you see a picture of President Bush with his
cabinet praying. This is not a special occasion, but rather a daily prayer that begins his administration
workday. It is not uncommon to see religious demonstrations and creeds throughout our society. Our
money has In God we Trust and our schools daily pledge states, ...One nation under God... We take
oaths under the Bible and are sworn in with it. It would be foolish to believe that our founding fathers
did not have a spiritual side to them. It would be even more naïve to believe that our sense of being

The Santa Fe School District has over four thousand students, as a result there is quite a large school
board that is the governing authority in that area. The school board enacted a policy that permitted
students to say or give a speech before home varsity football games of their school. The policy was to
be implemented as follows by the high school principal: Each spring, the High School Student
Council shall conduct an election via the student body to choose a student to deliver the address .
(Eilers, 2000) This policy was taken by families of Mormon and Catholic descent who started this

prejudice towards all other minority religious beliefs. The allegations also stated, They also alleged
that the district allowed students to read Christian invocations and benedictions from the stage at

Imaginative Play
sychChildren s Imaginative Play: A Descriptive Psychology Approach
Charles Kantor, Ph.D. Abstract
The significance of children s imaginative play is presented from the perspective of Descriptive
Psychology and in particular Ossorio s Dramaturgical model of persons. The fluidity of imaginative
play, the imitation of and creation of social practices and options within play as well as the
opportunity to switch roles and act according to reasons of another, contribute to the development of
judgment. The observer critic role emerges during imaginative play as children produce, direct, and
enact their dramas. Within these scenarios, children develop competence and eligibility to be not only
status assigners but also self status assigners. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The self and self concept The psychoanalytic theorists (Freud, Erikson) see children playing out
negative emotions in a safe context. Children are attempting to regain control in situations of conflict.
Mead stresses the importance of role playing in children s play, which activity contributes to a child s
sense of self (Verenikina et al, 2003). Erikson (1963, p.240) in describing a young client struggling
with the wartime death of his father, a pilot, illustrates the healing value of play: ...he was observed
swooping down a hill on a bicycle, endangering, scaring, yet deftly avoiding other children.... In
watching him, and hearing the strange noises he made, I could not help thinking that he again
imagined himself to be an airplane on a bombing mission. But at the same time he gained in playful
mastery over his locomotion; he exercised circumspection in his attack, and he became an admired
virtuoso on a bicycle.

Advances in Descriptive Psychology Vol. 9
This description of a young boy playing imaginatively illustrates elements that theorists over the years
have attributed to the value of play. His role play was distinctly social as others witnessed his attack,
and his actions increased his stature, his prestige among his friends. His ability to handle the bike, his
cognitive strength, circumspection in his attack , as he swoops down the hill, is noted as well. His self
esteem increased to the extent that he

The Ideal of a Man The Ideal of a Woman of the Heian...
The ideal of a man and the ideal of a woman of the Heian court differs significantly from what people
of our modern society might consider ideal, but that is to be expected as our modern society has had
much time to be exposed to and affected by the influences of many different cultures viewpoints. In
comparison, the Heian court was a more closed society, so back then, the notions of what was
acceptable and unacceptable and the standards to which men and women were measured were more
defined. Genji monogatari suggests the standards to which the sexes should be measured and gives
examples of people who meet the standards. It goes without saying that Genji, the hero of the tale, is
the perfect man. Throughout the tale, every character, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He obeyed, among others, the convention of sending poems to women after staying the night with
them. Genji was a prodigy when it came to the playing the kin, and he could even play the sō no koto.
Judging by the way that he was portrayed, I would not be surprised if there was not an instrument that
he could not play. When Genji and Tō no Chūjō performed Blue Sea Waves, although Tō no Chūjō
was very skillful in his dancing as if he had rehearsed many times, Genji was still the person who
drew all of the attention from their audience. Genji s dance was so elegant, and his voice was so
beautiful that it was likened to the kalavinka, the bird that sings in paradise. Genji s prowess with
painting was also out of this world. The picture contest in chapter 17 ended immediately after his
paintings were revealed, even though the previous contenders were expert painters brought in
specifically for the competition. His paintings were renderings of Suma and Akashi the places where
he had spent his time in exile. Seeing paintings that captured the essence of the faraway place that
Genji had gone to brought tears to everyone s eyes as they were filled once again with feelings
surrounding the despair brought on by Genji s absence. The manner in which Genji treated his many
lovers was another quality that made him such a great man. He took pity on women for their
shortcomings and trespasses against him rather than hating and blaming them.

Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods
There are two types of research methods: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research methods
are complex meaningful analyses characterized by processes and meanings that are not measured in
terms of mathematical measurements. Quantitative research however, relies and builds on
mathematical procedures and methods, such as frequency, quality, amount and statistical procedure.
There are unique characteristics which distinguish one research process from the other.
Purpose
The purpose of research is to answer questions by using a predefined set of procedures (Mack,
Woodsong, MacQueen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the data obtained by qualitative and quantitative research methods are different, they must be
evaluated differently also.
In order to ensure the quality and establish the trustworthiness of qualitative data, researchers may call
upon their peers to evaluate the narrative in order to determine if there are inconsistencies,
contradictions, or other instances of researcher bias (researcher proving only that which they choose or
anticipate)(Smith amp; Davis, 2010). Additionally, qualitative researchers also indicate the procedures
they used to validate data. This process is called confirmability. In addition to confirmability,
qualitative researchers are also concerned with credibility. Credibility refers to the accuracy of the
study. Because qualitative research is social or human in nature, it is best to allow the subjects of the
study determine accuracy. However, quantitative data is evaluated in a different manner.
In order to ensure that quantitative data is obtained from an acceptable instrument, it is necessary to
determine the validity and reliability of the instrument being used. It is important to minimize
subjectivity in quantitative research. The researcher must ensure that the surveys, questionnaires, and
tests, used are not open for interpretation or the results may be skewed. Researchers can verify the
usefulness of an instrument through validity and reliability. Validity refers to the extent to

What Is The Purpose Of The Odyssey
Provide significant details about the author (120 1): Homer
Homer, the author of The Odyssey , was believed to be blind. ( Homer )
Homer s writings were used to teach Greek students how to read in school (Beers 120).
Style5 conventions (121) The 5 conventions Homer uses in his writing are invocation
(invoking action), in medias res (middle of action), epic similes (comparing heroic events to events in
everyday life), metrical structure (6 syllables per line so a passage will be easier for a speaker to
memorize), and stock epithets (descriptive adjective) (Beers 121).
Philosophies Greeks believed in many gods, and due to Homer s blindness, many people believed that
Homer had godlike abilities. This is because it was said by philosophers that after losing one sense
other abilities became stronger, which meant that Homer s other senses had become godlike (Beers
120). Every time the Greeks found something that they didn t understand they created a God to
explain the phenomenon (Massa). The main gods that appear in The Odyssey are Zeus, the god of the
Sky, who saves Odysseus multiple times, Poseidon, the god of the ocean, who holds resentment
toward Odysseus, Hades, the god of the Underworld, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, justice, war,
civilization, and peace, and Hermes, the god of mischief, who saves Odysseus many times but fools
around with him first. (Massa).
Criticism I believe that Homer was criticized for the possible inaccuracy in his stories. Homer was

How Do Differences Of Employment Regimes Shape Job...
How do differences in employment regimes shape job quality in the call centre industry? Introduction.
The call centre sector is a relatively young sector it has emerged roughly in the past 5 to 10 years in
many countries around the globe. It serves a broad range of customers in all industry sectors and offers
a wide range of services. It is an important source of employment and new job creation everywhere
(David Holman, et al.,2007). The influence of different employment regimes on job quality The
employment regime theory suggests that if countries have individual national institutional regimes that
impact the national level of job quality then the differences in the state level could lead to a cross
national variation in job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recently industrialised economies do not provide much employment regulation, as they believe
that the market will rise to high employment level in the future (Culpepper Thelen, 2007; Gallie,
2000; Kristensen Lilja, 2010). The employment regime theory defines the contrasting institutional
features between countries and how it affects job quality. Job quality is defined as the position of
employment, which uses the employee welfare as the key measure of job quality (Brown, Charlwood,
Forde Spencer, 2007; Bustillo, et al., 2009). 51% of call centres are covered by some form of union
representation, either collective bargaining, works councils, or both. Nonetheless, coordinated
economies have the highest representation of 71%, liberal economies have 22% and recently
industrialized economies have 36%. The median turnover in coordinated economies is 15%, liberal
economies is 25% and recently industrialized economies is 23%. The business to business
employment regime offer better quality jobs as they use higher value added products and services, are
likely to a hire greater proportion of permanent staff and pay higher wages. The subcontractors
employed by companies focus exclusively on sales and outbound calls, make greater use of part time
and temporary workers, offer lower discretion jobs, have higher levels of performance monitoring, pay
lower wages and are

Daubert Standard Interview
In my interview with Professor Killgallon, my criminal justice professor we talked about the Daubert
Standard. The Daubert Standard is the assessment of how the courts treat an expert testimony. The
standards make sure that the evidence presented to the court used scientific methodology and if
accepted science was used to gain the evidence. The Daubert Standard is the new paradigm shift in
many states in the United States. It took the place of the Frye test, which was used for many years
before. The Daubert standard is the better test to use in courts because it makes the experts present
more evidence to make sure that the science or evidence was not faked.
The Frye Test is used determine whether or not the method by which that evidence was obtained was

The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace...
The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The
most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that
needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and
separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg.
82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other
democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international,
state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory
provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the
normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective
interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to
justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made
safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war
in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are
bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be
used to validate aggression.
Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders
accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war
(Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be
ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same
interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political
process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these
leaders accountable. However, Roasto states, because they are conscious of their

Different Types Of Electric Motors Essay
Introduction Due to the rising awareness of using green energy, applications of electric motors are
expanding widely in motor industry, and different types of electric motors are used in all kinds of
applications, such as, the public transportation, electric vehicles, and mechanical fans. Because of the
variety of working conditions in distinct application usages, engineers are developing various control
theories to meet specific requirements based on different types of power system and motor. Generally,
an electric motor is a machine which can transform electrical energy into mechanical energy.
According to the power system, we can separate electric current flow into two classifications which
are Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) . DC and AC are two different forms of electric
current flow, and they are provided and stored in different ways. For example, direct current can be
provided by batteries or power supplies, and alternating current can be provided by sockets or
generators. Based on using different types of power systems, there are two general categories of
electric motors which are DC motors and AC motors. In addition, there are many different structures
and functions of stators and rotors in the motor, so engineers develop different control theories to fit
specific working situations. This paper is going to explain three control techniques in three aspects,
illustrating how they work, exploring their advantages and disadvantages, and their

Analysis Of Terrence Malick s The Tree Of Life
Terrence Malick s The Tree of Life focuses on Jack, played by Sean Penn as a man and Hunter
McCracken as a boy, adrift in his life and reflecting on his childhood in 1950s Texas in a nearly two
and a half hour drama. Though the film is difficult to follow because of its highly experimental nature,
the audience is left with impressions of the film s spectacular visual and aural presence, both of which
show evidence of the influence of Christianity, which is omnipresent in the American South. The
theme is introduced at the beginning of the film by Mrs. O Brien, played by Jessica Chastain, as she
speaks in a gentle voice over about the way of nature and the way of grace. In his book How Should
We Then Live?: The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture, famous American theologian
Francis Schaeffer concluded that nature is as the lower while grace is the higher (Schaeffer 55). In the
religious context of the film, this means that as nature is self serving and representative of humans on
earth while grace is other serving and representative of God in heaven. This divide between the way of
nature and the way of grace finds itself present in various aspects of the film. While Terrence Malick s
The Tree of Life does not offer conventional evidence of the theme because of its experimental nature,
the visuals, music, and underscoring of the film support the audience s interpretation of the main
theme of nature versus grace.

Summary Of Warren St. John s Outcasts United
In Warren St. John s Outcasts United, the reader witnesses the struggles Luma Mufleh faces as she

ravaged with war and terrorism; the conflicts she faces allows the reader to examine the changes (or
lack thereof) that are happening/have happened across the world, even in our own hometowns.
Without a doubt, the people of Clarkston are reluctant to accept the change that was beginning to

of many Americans today. Truly, Luma would have had fewer problems acquiring the field necessary

rights that American laws provide him, such actions that have caused a recent uproar in cities across
the United States. This sudden influx in violence is not new as it has always been the belief that
immigrants should have to conform to American standards when they arrive. In fact, when St. John

was They re in America now. Not Africa. Although these immigrants and refugees have experienced a

Short Essay About The Tango
The tango is Argentina s national dance. The tango is a dance that defies description. It can be fast and
slow. Tango can be choreographed or completely improvised. Sometimes it has the stylish elegance of
a ballroom dance or a staccato duel. You could even describe it as a war between legs. The tango has

A Conspiracy in Politics
Politics is much more than agendas these days. It is a game involving intricate strategies and
manoeuvres to outsmart the others. Big games are played in today s political arena and these big
games are limited to the big player only. No matter how loyally or how long a person serves, the game
plan is limited only to the highest tier of the parties or maybe even less. The best and the trickiest of
games are played with a lot of confidentiality to ensure its success.
Politics, mind you, is not a child s play. Politicians are extremely smart people. By using the word
smart, I don t put them into the category of Einstiens or Newtons. What I am trying to convey is that
they are very observant and capable of noticing the smallest of opportunities. They plan with vision
and over time it pays off.
In the light of the present situation, I may sound a complete fool for what I have just said. Had
politicians been so smart and so thoughtful in their strategies then why can t the Indian National
Congress see the very evident inefficiency of Mr. Rahul Gandhi? He has become a subject of
numerous jokes on the social media and his incompetency has come to the fore over the years. It is
very clear that Rahul has failed miserably to connect to the people. On the other hand, there is Modi, a
magnetic personality with great oration skills. More importantly he has Gujarat to show for his
achievements. Is the Congress so naive to neglect it and go about doing nothing at all?

Jimmy John Surgery Persuasive Speech
Wouldn t you like to know the wonders of arm injuries?
There are a few pitchers who have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Most of the time after Tommy
John surgery the pitcher is out for a year or two. There is a growing belief, though, that recovery time
isn t sufficient after many Tommy John procedures, thanks to an erroneous idea that crept into the
sport in recent years that pitchers need only 10 18 months to come back from a UCL replacement,
whereas accepted standard time to return from a Tommy John procedure in medical circles is 16 20
months. Many pitchers come back before they are assigned. That is why they have so many arm
injuries in the long run. There are more guys going through this and it s better to err on the side of
giving more time. Even with a first Tommy John, people expect a 100 percent success rate, and while

Disadvantages Of High-Stakes Testing
In spite of critics, educational reform in Texas continued to rely on testing in an effort to meet
accountability required at the state level. Calls for accountability seem to usually rise from the
political community. When the political community demands that tests serve high stakes
accountability functions, professional testing standards can be easily compromised. In accountability
contexts, test results decide which students are retained in grade, held back from graduation, and
assigned to tracks or special classifications...high stakes testing produces teaching and testing
practices that lead to inflated test scores and further disadvantage already disadvantaged students,
(Smith and Fey, 2000, p. 334). To call for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associations to which test specialists belong agree that the validity standard depends on the test s
context and it s used. A test may be validated for some uses and not others (Smith et al., 2000).
McDonnell (1997) found that the political community believed the benefits of the assessment policy
would outweigh any harm that might be caused by less than reliable or invalid tests. Some may
wonder why teaching to the test is not a good practice and a healthy basic skills emphasis. They may
even suggest that teaching to the test results is basic instruction even in the least advantaged
educational situations. Research indicates that there is little evidence to indicate that high stakes
accountability testing and reform have had much impact on overall school performance beyond
increased scores on the individual test that was the instrument of the state policy (Mehrens, 1998).
Theory validity of TAAS fell short of professional standards in other ways: While Texas scores on the
math part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) have risen dramatically the
results, perhaps, of all that drill and test practice Texas students made only small gains in the NAEP
reading test between 1992 and 1998, no gain what so ever between 1993 and 1996 on nationally
normed achievement tests in reading, and not much gain in other subjects...They have not made much
gain on the SAT, either (Schrag, 2000).Since 1999, Texas has begun to administer the Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exam and has continued to follow the high stakes consequences
for failing the tests at the 3, 6 and 10th grades. This current test battery has been said to be more
difficult than the earlier basic skills exams. One result of the wide use of exams to measure student
achievement has been the growth of alternative education. The website for the Texas

Tips for Travelers and Players
1. TURNING OFF GADGETS WHILE ON FLIGHT HOURS GO TO SLEEP.
Before boarding the flight i always have an intense exercise which helps me reach the sound sleep
level.
Once on board the best thing to do is to shut off all the gadgets, drink some water, breathe
deeply, meditate then simply go to sleep. This short nap of 45 75 minutes not only stimulates my body
system but also gives a sense of freshness. This idea could go well with players since they hardly get
sound sleep because of their hectic cricketing schedule.
2. EAT HEALTHY FOOD ADJUST WELL WITH CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS.
I always follow good eating habits. The best time to have a healthy meal is while staying in hotel. I
generally have a high protein breakfast with oatmeal yoghurt with a bowl of skimmed milk. But at
times there are various business meets conferences where i strictly follow my rule : NO JUNK
FOODS.
Similar situation arises with cricketers who during the whole course of tournaments like IPL have to
attend meets greets, conferences,ad shoots where there is highest possibilities of snacks like
muffins, pastries, cupcakes on serving tables keeping away from this stuff surely helps the players to
keep their blood sugar level under check which do not make them feel tired while they are on field
diving from one end to other to save boundaries ultimately saving few runs for their team. Avoid
having breads, pastas and other highly processed foods in lunch since they tend to make you fall sleep

Omega is a successful company and one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK, employing a
large number of staff in stores across the country. Although the industry has seen very little growth in
recent years, Omega has successfully increased its market share through a policy of lowering prices
(the company claims to have reduced prices by 7.5 per cent between 2004 2009) and improving
customer service. It currently holds a dominant share of the UK market in its core business and is
growing rapidly in related areas. The company plans to continue expanding in the UK, opening up

A more recent change within Omega has been the drive for consistency across stores, and all policies,
procedures and processes are centrally determined and their implementation closely monitored. Each
store is governed by the company routines handbook which provides detailed information on how
every task is to be performed this is down to the minutest detail even including details on office
layout, such as where pictures should go on the wall. On the HR side all policies and procedures are
highly centralised and controlled the wage budget for example is fixed for each store and there is no
local flexibility on pay something which was obviously a cause for great frustration in some of the
stores where recruitment, retention and staff quality are on going major problems. Although the stores
cannot function without these routines it is the way in which the rules and routines are implemented
that is considered a key ingredient for success. It is management, in particular, store managers, who
are responsible for how policies are implemented and their behaviour is therefore critical to a store s
performance.
Section managers occupy first line manager position within the store. Spans of control (The number of
subordinates who report directly to a given manager or superior), are normally 12 general assistants to
each section manager and in a large store there may be about 20 section

The Effects of Mental Health Resources on College Student Stress and Coping
Chapter 2: Literature Review
Introduction
Many young adults within the university and college educational system experience stress. The stress
and anxiety they incur can vary due to multiple factors. This chapter examined some of these different
factors and how they have contributed to undergraduate student stress and anxiety and overall college
experience. It also focused on the positive and negative coping mechanisms students utilized in order
to manage their stress and anxiety. Finally, it examined the mental health resources available that have
helped promote adaptive emotional management skills. By examining these factors the reader will
better understand the elements that could contribute to the student s ability to thrive in their
undergraduate experience.
Stress and Undergraduate Students Fear and Stress Contributing to Student Performance. Students
may experience academic difficulty due to a variety of factor. One particular factor students may face
regularly is fear. While growing up, fears are a common experience, however as an individual gets
older they eventually learn how to better manage their experience of fear (Bledsoe Baskin, 2014).
Nevertheless, fear can still occasionally impact peoples cognitive abilities. Cognitive functioning is a
significant part of the undergraduate experience so any impairment of it can be significant.

wage in the United States. Barbara Ehrenreich, a journalist, decides to experiment living on a low
income job after discovering the welfare reform legislation in 1996. She tries to survive on minimum
wage for a month in three US cities; Key West, Portland, and Minneapolis. In Key West Florida, she
learned about the challenges of working in a lower class job and trying to get by. The only way to
afford basic necessities is by having two jobs or to have someone help pay, such as a working
husband. In Portland, Barbara worked as a housecleaner and faced the harsh reality of not many
people having appreciation or sympathy for lower class workers. To illustrate, as she kneeled on her

One key takeaway I learned is that when prices go up on items such as housing, food, clothes, the poor
have a difficult time since they become forced into paying more. Now I believe that unemployment is
not the main cause of poverty, it s simply that humans can t live off a low income job, especially when
items are becoming pricey. Though, the biggest life lesson I learned is that we all tend to stereotype
humans living in poverty as lazy and careless. Though, I realized that people in poverty may have a
job and be extremely hard working. In our society we believe, if you have a job, you have a home,
food on the table, and clothes on your back. Though, there are many people who work, but can barely
afford a decent meal. Nickel and Dimed exposed me to what the American society has turned
into,......... though, I believe it helped me grow as a person. Now every time I see a worker I see them
with respect and gratitude.

The Controversy Over Free Will And Determinism
Introduction
It has been debated over centuries whether us humans have control over our destiny, and if we are
really able to decide on our own. The controversy between free will and determinism has been argued
about for years. If we look into a dictionary, free will is define as the power given to human beings to
be able to make free choices that is unconstrained by external circumstances or a force such as fate or
divine intervention. Determinism is defined as a philosophical doctrine that every event, act, and
decision is the inescapable consequence of antecedents that are independent of the human will.
Determinism states that humans have no free will to choose what they wish. Due to this fact,
contemporary philosophers cannot agree whether free will does exist, let alone it be a divine influence.
Three major Beliefs
There are three major arguments in the thought of free and they are libertarianism, compatibilism, and
fatalism. There are both a religious and secular position for this argument. The religious aspect of free
will is that it is an objective by God, while the secular position is subjective to causal determinism and
the effect of the physical and concrete things on the process of decision making.
In an article by Alvin Plantinga he tackled a few types of compatibilism, and he believes that he has
found an objective to serve as a middle ground in the free will debate. Plantinga believes that God had
already began the process, with an abrupt cause, and since

individuals, many of them must have the next step of maintenance just in case they deviate from the

either maintain their steps in change or relapse and change their ways (Miller Rollnick, 2002). This
step is also the last step and the longest step for individuals in which finishing this step might take up

Dual diagnosis will almost consist of three prevalent characteristics such as substance abuse, several
metal illnesses and proper treatment (Drake, 2007). In addition, dual diagnosis also allows clients and
doctors to discover further new knowledge specifically of dual diagnosis such as the most exposed to
different individuals who are dual diagnosed the better treatment the doctor can provide (Werner
Stawski, 2012). Furthermore the more knowledgeable the doctors are at treating individuals whom are
dual diagnosed the better they are to provide their clients with the eight to nine stages (depending on
the individual) of change (Miller Rollnick, 2002). However, with all of this new knowledge, there are
issues that pertain to dual diagnosis, which is that having a typecast on the individuals will cause the
doctor to provide worse treatment as if they didn t have an opinion of those clients (Werner, 2012). In
addition, there must be work done on treating children who are dual diagnosed since many doctors
don t even know that children can be dual diagnosed and treated just like adults (Jamie Knowlton,

A life changing experience
Everyone thinks that a new place or a new identity will jump fast a new life. Caroline Leavitt. My
story starts in the year 2017 when I decided to follow up on my dream and go to a far away land,
called the United States of America. My journey is full of new surprises and discoveries of a world so
different from the one I am leaving behind, with its own beliefs and culture. This is the story of an
eighteen year boy and his first encounter with a new society, his first time away from home and
family. It was not an easy decision moving to a different country, leaving behind everything and
everybody, but I had the anxiety of traveling and seeing this new world that I had seen only in the
movies, the land of Christopher Columbus, where Indians and African Americans lived unified on a

  • 2. The Story Of Caroline Curry s Essay Shoot for the moon even if you miss you ll land among the stars, quote by Les Brown. Caroline Curry did not technically shoot for the moon, but for the soccer goal instead. Making the decision to play soccer was one she did not regret. I guess you could say it landed on the moon. It may not seem like a big deal to take up a new sport, but joining soccer was vital to shaping her as a person. The story of Caroline Curry deciding to play soccer is not an emotional one. I thought I was fat and I should play a sport. Out of all the sports I thought soccer would be the most forgiving. Little did she know the impact it would have on her life. After deciding to play soccer she signed up for Montgomery Soccer Inc; a soccer association. After signing up she begins her sport. After playing for only a little while Caroline improves her skills and communication, forms a close bond with her teammates, and creates lifelong friends. She also says she lost some weight, a plus in her book. Over the years more friends were made, experiences experienced, and lessons learned. If you believe you can do it, you can do it! A quote straight from Caroline s heart. If you let in a goal or don t play well it s ok, just push yourself to improvement. A more serious quote from Caroline. She also learned that if you get a chance to take the easy way or the challenging way, the challenging way is the way to go. The only regret Caroline has about this significant event is choosing to play rec soccer instead of travel. It s crazy to think about what life would be like if a decision had not been made. I would have probably not have been as good of friends with my current friends due to lack of common interest. Instead I might have a closer group of friends because of a different extracurricular I chose, Caroline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literature Review on Corporate Culture Management Literature Review During the 1980s the concept of corporate culture captured the imagination of management researchers and practitioners alike. In particular, Peters and Waterman s (1982) book entitled In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America s Best Run Companies proclaimed that the key to corporate success was a strongly unified corporate culture. Wilson (1996:87) Corporate culture has always been a part of every business since it was first introduced in the 1980 s. It doesn t matter if it s a small business or a massive company, corporate culture will always have an involvement. Corporate culture is very hard to define as one particular meaning, due to the various areas it covers. Glaser (1991:6) stated ...the folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without that sense of teamwork, employees would not be able to achieve their maximum level of output, as they will feel as though they are on their own; that the work they produce will just end up as a file on the company system. Corporate culture provides a Greater Good aspect to employees, all working together to achieve the same goal, as long as the values they work by feel right to them. An example of positive corporate culture increasing performance is Southwest Airlines. Sadri Lee (2001:857) provides this statement CEO and co founder Herb Kelleher...encourages employees to be very informal and have fun at their jobs...Kelleher fosters this type of culture by engaging in unusual acts, such as arriving at shareholder meetings on a motorcycle wearing jeans and a t shirt, or holding a 2a.m. barbeque for the company s mechanics who work the night shift (Donlon, 1999)...Kelleher also strives to value Southwest s employees, acknowledging births, deaths, marriages, and other events in their lives by a note or card. The reason I think they race on the street and not on the track is because they don t want to spend the money on safety equipment, a lot of these cars don t meet the requirements to race on a track they don t have all the required safety equipment like roll cages in case the car flips over or a four point harness that keeps you in your seat in case the car did flip over, or a fire suit and fire extinguisher in case the car caught on fire while your in it. Imaginative Play sychChildren s Imaginative Play: A Descriptive Psychology Approach Charles Kantor, Ph.D. Abstract The significance of children s imaginative play is presented from the perspective of Descriptive Psychology and in particular Ossorio s Dramaturgical model of persons. The fluidity of imaginative play, the imitation of and creation of social practices and options within play as well as the opportunity to switch roles and act according to reasons of another, contribute to the development of judgment. The observer critic role emerges during imaginative play as children produce, direct, and enact their dramas. Within these scenarios, children develop competence and eligibility to be not only status assigners but also self status assigners. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The self and self concept The psychoanalytic theorists (Freud, Erikson) see children playing out negative emotions in a safe context. Children are attempting to regain control in situations of conflict. Mead stresses the importance of role playing in children s play, which activity contributes to a child s sense of self (Verenikina et al, 2003). Erikson (1963, p.240) in describing a young client struggling with the wartime death of his father, a pilot, illustrates the healing value of play: ...he was observed swooping down a hill on a bicycle, endangering, scaring, yet deftly avoiding other children.... In watching him, and hearing the strange noises he made, I could not help thinking that he again imagined himself to be an airplane on a bombing mission. But at the same time he gained in playful mastery over his locomotion; he exercised circumspection in his attack, and he became an admired virtuoso on a bicycle. 259 Advances in Descriptive Psychology Vol. 9 This description of a young boy playing imaginatively illustrates elements that theorists over the years have attributed to the value of play. His role play was distinctly social as others witnessed his attack, and his actions increased his stature, his prestige among his friends. His ability to handle the bike, his cognitive strength, circumspection in his attack , as he swoops down the hill, is noted as well. His self esteem increased to the extent that he ... The ideal of a man and the ideal of a woman of the Heian court differs significantly from what people of our modern society might consider ideal, but that is to be expected as our modern society has had much time to be exposed to and affected by the influences of many different cultures viewpoints. In comparison, the Heian court was a more closed society, so back then, the notions of what was acceptable and unacceptable and the standards to which men and women were measured were more defined. When Genji and Tō no Chūjō performed Blue Sea Waves, although Tō no Chūjō was very skillful in his dancing as if he had rehearsed many times, Genji was still the person who drew all of the attention from their audience. Genji s dance was so elegant, and his voice was so beautiful that it was likened to the kalavinka, the bird that sings in paradise. Genji s prowess with painting was also out of this world. The picture contest in chapter 17 ended immediately after his paintings were revealed, even though the previous contenders were expert painters brought in specifically for the competition. His paintings were renderings of Suma and Akashi the places where he had spent his time in exile. Seeing paintings that captured the essence of the faraway place that Genji had gone to brought tears to everyone s eyes as they were filled once again with feelings surrounding the despair brought on by Genji s absence. Qualitative Quantitative Research Methods Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods PSY 326 Dr. Willow Aureala March 29, 2011 Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods There are two types of research methods: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research methods are complex meaningful analyses characterized by processes and meanings that are not measured in terms of mathematical measurements. Quantitative research however, relies and builds on mathematical procedures and methods, such as frequency, quality, amount and statistical procedure. In order to ensure the quality and establish the trustworthiness of qualitative data, researchers may call upon their peers to evaluate the narrative in order to determine if there are inconsistencies, contradictions, or other instances of researcher bias (researcher proving only that which they choose or anticipate)(Smith amp; Davis, 2010). Additionally, qualitative researchers also indicate the procedures they used to validate data. This process is called confirmability. In addition to confirmability, qualitative researchers are also concerned with credibility. Credibility refers to the accuracy of the study. Because qualitative research is social or human in nature, it is best to allow the subjects of the study determine accuracy. However, quantitative data is evaluated in a different manner. In order to ensure that quantitative data is obtained from an acceptable instrument, it is necessary to determine the validity and reliability of the instrument being used. It is important to minimize subjectivity in quantitative research. The researcher must ensure that the surveys, questionnaires, and tests, used are not open for interpretation or the results may be skewed. ( Homer ) Homer s writings were used to teach Greek students how to read in school (Beers 120). Style5 conventions (121) The 5 conventions Homer uses in his writing are invocation (invoking action), in medias res (middle of action), epic similes (comparing heroic events to events in everyday life), metrical structure (6 syllables per line so a passage will be easier for a speaker to memorize), and stock epithets (descriptive adjective) (Beers 121). Philosophies Greeks believed in many gods, and due to Homer s blindness, many people believed that Homer had godlike abilities. This is because it was said by philosophers that after losing one sense other abilities became stronger, which meant that Homer s other senses had become godlike (Beers 120). Every time the Greeks found something that they didn t understand they created a God to explain the phenomenon (Massa). The main gods that appear in The Odyssey are Zeus, the god of the Sky, who saves Odysseus multiple times, Poseidon, the god of the ocean, who holds resentment toward Odysseus, Hades, the god of the Underworld, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, justice, war, civilization, and peace, and Hermes, the god of mischief, who saves Odysseus many times but fools around with him first. The most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg. 82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international, state actors from going to war. The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be used to validate aggression. Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war (Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same interests. Different Types Of Electric Motors Essay Introduction Due to the rising awareness of using green energy, applications of electric motors are expanding widely in motor industry, and different types of electric motors are used in all kinds of applications, such as, the public transportation, electric vehicles, and mechanical fans. Because of the variety of working conditions in distinct application usages, engineers are developing various control theories to meet specific requirements based on different types of power system and motor. Generally, an electric motor is a machine which can transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. According to the power system, we can separate electric current flow into two classifications which are Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) . DC and AC are two different forms of electric current flow, and they are provided and stored in different ways. For example, direct current can be provided by batteries or power supplies, and alternating current can be provided by sockets or generators. Based on using different types of power systems, there are two general categories of electric motors which are DC motors and AC motors. In addition, there are many different structures and functions of stators and rotors in the motor, so engineers develop different control theories to fit specific working situations. Analysis Of Terrence Malick s The Tree Of Life Terrence Malick s The Tree of Life focuses on Jack, played by Sean Penn as a man and Hunter McCracken as a boy, adrift in his life and reflecting on his childhood in 1950s Texas in a nearly two and a half hour drama. Though the film is difficult to follow because of its highly experimental nature, the audience is left with impressions of the film s spectacular visual and aural presence, both of which show evidence of the influence of Christianity, which is omnipresent in the American South. The theme is introduced at the beginning of the film by Mrs. O Brien, played by Jessica Chastain, as she speaks in a gentle voice over about the way of nature and the way of grace. In his book How Should We Then Live?: The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture, famous American theologian Francis Schaeffer concluded that nature is as the lower while grace is the higher (Schaeffer 55). In the religious context of the film, this means that as nature is self serving and representative of humans on earth while grace is other serving and representative of God in heaven. This divide between the way of nature and the way of grace finds itself present in various aspects of the film. • 27. Disadvantages Of High-Stakes Testing In spite of critics, educational reform in Texas continued to rely on testing in an effort to meet accountability required at the state level. Calls for accountability seem to usually rise from the political community. When the political community demands that tests serve high stakes accountability functions, professional testing standards can be easily compromised. In accountability contexts, test results decide which students are retained in grade, held back from graduation, and assigned to tracks or special classifications...high stakes testing produces teaching and testing practices that lead to inflated test scores and further disadvantage already disadvantaged students, (Smith and Fey, 2000, p. 334). A test may be validated for some uses and not others (Smith et al., 2000). McDonnell (1997) found that the political community believed the benefits of the assessment policy would outweigh any harm that might be caused by less than reliable or invalid tests. Some may wonder why teaching to the test is not a good practice and a healthy basic skills emphasis. They may even suggest that teaching to the test results is basic instruction even in the least advantaged educational situations. Research indicates that there is little evidence to indicate that high stakes accountability testing and reform have had much impact on overall school performance beyond increased scores on the individual test that was the instrument of the state policy (Mehrens, 1998). Theory validity of TAAS fell short of professional standards in other ways: While Texas scores on the math part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) have risen dramatically the results, perhaps, of all that drill and test practice Texas students made only small gains in the NAEP reading test between 1992 and 1998, no gain what so ever between 1993 and 1996 on nationally normed achievement tests in reading, and not much gain in other subjects...They have not made much gain on the SAT, either (Schrag, 2000).Since 1999, Texas has begun to administer the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exam and has continued to follow the high stakes consequences for failing the tests at the 3, 6 and 10th grades. Before boarding the flight i always have an intense exercise which helps me reach the sound sleep level. Once on board the best thing to do is to shut off all the gadgets, drink some water, breathe deeply, meditate then simply go to sleep. This short nap of 45 75 minutes not only stimulates my body system but also gives a sense of freshness. This idea could go well with players since they hardly get sound sleep because of their hectic cricketing schedule. 2. EAT HEALTHY FOOD ADJUST WELL WITH CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS. I always follow good eating habits. The best time to have a healthy meal is while staying in hotel. I generally have a high protein breakfast with oatmeal yoghurt with a bowl of skimmed milk. But at times there are various business meets conferences where i strictly follow my rule : NO JUNK FOODS. Similar situation arises with cricketers who during the whole course of tournaments like IPL have to attend meets greets, conferences,ad shoots where there is highest possibilities of snacks like muffins, pastries, cupcakes on serving tables keeping away from this stuff surely helps the players to keep their blood sugar level under check which do not make them feel tired while they are on field diving from one end to other to save boundaries ultimately saving few runs for their team. Although the industry has seen very little growth in recent years, Omega has successfully increased its market share through a policy of lowering prices (the company claims to have reduced prices by 7.5 per cent between 2004 2009) and improving customer service. On the HR side all policies and procedures are highly centralised and controlled the wage budget for example is fixed for each store and there is no local flexibility on pay something which was obviously a cause for great frustration in some of the stores where recruitment, retention and staff quality are on going major problems. Although the stores cannot function without these routines it is the way in which the rules and routines are implemented that is considered a key ingredient for success. It is management, in particular, store managers, who are responsible for how policies are implemented and their behaviour is therefore critical to a store s performance. Stress Literature Review The Effects of Mental Health Resources on College Student Stress and Coping Chapter 2: Literature Review Introduction Many young adults within the university and college educational system experience stress. The stress and anxiety they incur can vary due to multiple factors. This chapter examined some of these different factors and how they have contributed to undergraduate student stress and anxiety and overall college experience. It also focused on the positive and negative coping mechanisms students utilized in order to manage their stress and anxiety. Finally, it examined the mental health resources available that have helped promote adaptive emotional management skills. By examining these factors the reader will better understand the elements that could contribute to the student s ability to thrive in their undergraduate experience. Stress and Undergraduate Students Fear and Stress Contributing to Student Performance. Students may experience academic difficulty due to a variety of factor. One particular factor students may face regularly is fear. While growing up, fears are a common experience, however as an individual gets older they eventually learn how to better manage their experience of fear (Bledsoe Baskin, 2014). Nevertheless, fear can still occasionally impact peoples cognitive abilities. Cognitive functioning is a significant part of the undergraduate experience so any impairment of it can be significant. Barbara Ehrenreich, a journalist, decides to experiment living on a low income job after discovering the welfare reform legislation in 1996. She tries to survive on minimum wage for a month in three US cities; Key West, Portland, and Minneapolis. In Key West Florida, she learned about the challenges of working in a lower class job and trying to get by. The only way to afford basic necessities is by having two jobs or to have someone help pay, such as a working husband. In Portland, Barbara worked as a housecleaner and faced the harsh reality of not many people having appreciation or sympathy for lower class workers. One key takeaway I learned is that when prices go up on items such as housing, food, clothes, the poor have a difficult time since they become forced into paying more. Now I believe that unemployment is not the main cause of poverty, it s simply that humans can t live off a low income job, especially when items are becoming pricey. Though, the biggest life lesson I learned is that we all tend to stereotype humans living in poverty as lazy and careless. Though, I realized that people in poverty may have a job and be extremely hard working. In our society we believe, if you have a job, you have a home, food on the table, and clothes on your back. Though, there are many people who work, but can barely afford a decent meal. • 37. The Controversy Over Free Will And Determinism Introduction It has been debated over centuries whether us humans have control over our destiny, and if we are really able to decide on our own. The controversy between free will and determinism has been argued about for years. If we look into a dictionary, free will is define as the power given to human beings to be able to make free choices that is unconstrained by external circumstances or a force such as fate or divine intervention. Determinism is defined as a philosophical doctrine that every event, act, and decision is the inescapable consequence of antecedents that are independent of the human will. Determinism states that humans have no free will to choose what they wish. Due to this fact, contemporary philosophers cannot agree whether free will does exist, let alone it be a divine influence. Three major Beliefs There are three major arguments in the thought of free and they are libertarianism, compatibilism, and fatalism. There are both a religious and secular position for this argument. The religious aspect of free will is that it is an objective by God, while the secular position is subjective to causal determinism and the effect of the physical and concrete things on the process of decision making. In an article by Alvin Plantinga he tackled a few types of compatibilism, and he believes that he has found an objective to serve as a middle ground in the free will debate. This step is also the last step and the longest step for individuals in which finishing this step might take up to months or even years to accomplish (Miller Rollnick, 2002).
