Format:
I am going to create to my magazine in the genre of Heavy metal using front cover and double
page spreads.
Working Title:
My working title will be called rock dance which is the same as the other idea because they are
both based on rock. Rock is the genre of music that makes people dance. As I have collected the
information about the rock being proved to make people dance as my family friend that plays
rock music said to me that that’s the main purpose of rock. This magazine is going too based on
the heavy rock in music. My other music magazine idea is to produce indie rock. So two different
types of music. The heavy metal music magazine is going to be very deep in terms of images and
use of text. This is type of rock is aimed at older people than indie rock. This is why I have made
the text more appropriate for adults than for the younger teenagers. This has less bright colours
and more of a dangerous look due to the metal text that I have used.
Genre:
I have chosen the sub-genre of heavy metal rock, the heavy metal rock will be aimed at adults
due to the images and text that will be used within the magazine. The heavy metal will have the
competitor’s will be Kerrang as they are focused on the music genre of rock which is what my
music is focused on.
Content:
My magazine will hold many images and various bits of text within the magazine. The magazine
will cover things such as interviews and exclusive news for the magazine. This will be about that
latest heavy metal rock band. This will be within the first half of the magazine, at the end of the
magazine there will be classic heavy metal rock. The magazine will therefore be going back in
time over the genre of heavy metal. The pictures will be aimed at adults due to the images
showing adult appropriate use of makeup and piercings. My magazine would discourage young
people viewing the heavy metal images within the magazine. The front cover will cover the latest
band which will include what I had just mentioned about the make-up and the piercing. The
colour will be dark to suit the genre of the magazine.
Style or Approach:
The front cover colour will be black to connotes the tone of the music being quite dark and grown
up. The text colour will be red which will then also show danger and grown up style. Inside the
magazine the colours will be fairly similar in terms with the dark colours to show the dark and
dangerous style. However the sub headings will be white to show the text being bold in front of
the black back ground. This style will be used for the interviews and exclusive news that will be
shown within the magazine. The bands on the front cover will be faded in within the front
colours. This will be done by using the tools on the programme photo shop. The tools will merge
the black and red colours together. This will make the style look more appealing to the audience
of the magazine. The red text will be able to catch the attention of the audience as adults.
Audience:
The audience is male and female as the music is based on love both genders are but then able to
understand what the lyrics are about. The music is more aimed at the gothic side on the social
economic due to the make-up and the piercings that are used to show how they don’t care about
what they look like and enjoy looking wild and cool. The stereotype is black meaning the music
could be for people that have a very dark and cold background due to the black tone that heavy
metal produce within their songs. Most of them are about death, the song is ragging which
sounds like people letting their anger out. All this is aimed at the age between 18 and 30 within a
adult bracket due to the images that some kids may not like. They would also not be able to
understand the lyrics that are being sung within the song. This is why the target audience is being
aimed at the adults and not at children.
Length:
I want to be able to keep it short and compact with loads of images and posters to make sure that
the reader is engaged with the magazine and does not get bored.
I intend to make 16 pages including the front and back cover. It will be A4 in size.
Frequency:
I intended to sell my magazine every month so that people can enjoy a lot of information to read.
Over the month the magazine will be able to gather exclusive news and stories about the heavy
metal bands. I will sell the magazine for 1.20 as this is classed bellow the working class for poor

Conclusion and improvements to be made?
This magazine will have a few things that can be changed so that it becomes more appealing in the
second issue. Such as the bands that feature on the front cover, instead of having the band that
performed a few years ago that had been called back for the interview. Having the most up to date
band on the front cover with the interview will then like the fact that the magazine will then become
more interesting towards the reader. In terms of the colour you could make a few changes, instead
of having the typical red and black colours on the front cover. The new issue will be able to have new
colours but still having that dark and mean element. The new colours that will be used will be bright
pink or yellow with the black background. This will then make the magazine look brand new and
then relating to the crazy theme of heavy metal.
Having these improvements on the magazine will then show the reader that the new magazine that
has come out has the new style so it then becomes the must have. The new magazine having the
new colours and bands on the front cover will then make the magazine as a first impression a lot
more appealing than having a similar front cover. The font style however will then stay the same
because the font style doesn’t play the important part within the magazine. The colours and the
features will be the first thing that the reader will then see. These are the improvements that can be
made for the next issue of the magazine based on the heavy metal rock theme in music.
