3. Online Communication &
Transformational Education
We need to bring
high process to our
already high content
to begin using online
communication as a
critical element of a
lifelong learning
network that helps
people improve their
lives and
communities.
5. Tips for Tweets
• Use 120-130 characters to leave room for
retweets
• Spread your tweets out throughout the day –
tweets get more engagement when they don’t
come in bunches
• Use a Twitter client like TweetDeck or Hootsuite
and a tool like Buffer to help you schedule tweets
7. YouTube Tips
• Get social with YouTube – do more than post videos
• Comment on videos – thank creators for their work,
add important information and kindly correct errors
• “Like” videos and share them on other social media
channels
• Create playlists of quality, related videos

Editor's Notes
Here is the NDSU Extension Twitter stream. In just 6 days, our organization was able to reach more than 27,004 Twitter accounts. We only have 1,385 followers, but we were able to reach almost 20 times that many people by engaging with our network. Some of those 1,385 followers shared our information with their followers, then those tweets were re-shared again reaching another group of followers.
Here is my Twitter stream. I have asked my Twitter followers, my Tweeps, to share one piece of social media advice with you or just say hi. We are bringing all those messages together by each of us using the hashtag #ndgga. The reason my Tweeps answer when I call is that they find value in their connection with me.
The NDSU Extension YouTube channel has 250 subscribers but the videos on that channel have received 364,786 views. Those views have grown well beyond the subscriber base because the videos are available through search and because people are sharing them with their network.
