Management of solid waste hast received attention from central and state
government.
The early initiatives of Government of India on urban solid waste management
primarily focused on promoting composting of urban municipal solid waste.
The various initiatives taken by government, NGOs, private companies, and local
public drastically increased in the past few decades.
On jan. 25, 1996, National Solid Waste Association of India (NSWAI) was
established and is the only non-profit organisation.
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has published guidelines for the disposal of
plastic waste.
