Jazz originated in the southern United States in the early 1900s, developing styles like Dixieland. Key instruments included saxophone, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums. The 1920s saw the rise of New Orleans jazz while the 1930s saw big band swing jazz and the 1940s brought bebop. Instrumentalists and vocalists like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and Miles Davis contributed to the evolution of jazz in the following decades. Jazz fusion emerged in the 1970s blending jazz with other genres.
Elective course
