The Endocrine
System
By Sakinah Gibson
• -dipsia – thirst
• -uria- relating to urine

Suffixes
• Glycosuria is the presence of glucose in the urine.
• This can be caused by: Diabeties mellitus, Renal
  glycosuria, or hyperailmentation
• This usually results from elevated blood sugar levels. A
person with Glycosuris is usually hypoglycemic or has a
  low renal threshold for sugar.
• This can sometimes be normal after eating a heavy meal
or during times of emotional stress. It can also be found
  in pregnant women.

Glycosuria
• Polydipsia is a condtion where a person ingests excessive
amounts of fluids. It is usually associated with
  dehydration from polyuria.
• This is sometimes found in mental patients. It can also be
a symptom of osmotic diuresis, diabetes insipidus,
  atropine poisoning, or belladonna poinsoning.
• Since polydipsia is a symptom and not a disease in order
to find the cause, a fluid deprivation test is used.
