This document summarizes the student's experiments with different graphic design, video, audio, and game production techniques. It reflects on the strengths and weaknesses of projects created using Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and other software. The student indicates they would like to develop stronger skills in sound editing, Photoshop, and pixel art to improve future projects.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

4. Graphic Design Production
• Advantages of working in Photoshop
– Has a lot of editing tools to benefit what I was
editing.
– Can do many things such as animate as well as
edit photos.
• Disadvantages of working in Photoshop
– Can be quite complex and difficult if you are new.
– Time consuming if new to the software.
– Not the best for graphics editing as it is very basic.
5. Graphic Design Production
Primary colours both red
to show the brand icon.
Santa Clause features as the main
image in both. To connotate that its
Christmas and a magical time.
Same logo in corner
on both.
Different slogans. I believe y product
links more to Christmas.
Different backgrounds one
plain and one with more
going on.
Different sizes of logos my product has a
smaller one Coca Cola has focused more
on showing off the brand.
6. Graphic Design Production
Strengths
Weaknesses
Changes
I think my Photoshop editing
of the Santa Clause was
strong as I had to cut out the
background of it and refine
the small details.
I think that my choice of
background was good as it
goes well with the colour
scheme and the Christmas
theme.
I also had weaknesses
such as fully furnishing
the Santa Clause as the
lasso tool would not
work on one part of the
image. I overcame this
by using the eraser tool
and being precise.
Next time I
would
change the
font and
think more
about the
colours of
the words
to add
more to my
poster and
make it
more
festive.

8. Radio Production
• Advantages of working in Premiere Pro
– Can edit sound very well.
– Can incorporate lots of different sounds and levels.
– Can change the tempo and pitch of sounds to make
others stand out a lot more.
• Disadvantages of working in Premiere Pro
– Can’t make sounds longer only shorter.
– Not straight forward as it is quite technical.
– Limited to what sounds you can use as you can not
compose any sounds yourself through
9. Radio Production
My final product includes beach party music sounds of families having
fun, playing games and drinking Coca Cola.
My comparison radio product features sounds of people slurping and
sounds of Coca Cola fizzing. This is to make people thirsty for Coca
Cola.
Similarities
Both products include beach party music and joyful fun sounds to
make the listener want to feel happy and drink Coca Cola.
Differences
My product includes more live action sounds as if the listener is in the
advert. This contrasts to the opposing advert as it has commentary in it
talking to the listener. Both techniques work very well for dragging the
listener into the brand.
10. Radio Production
Strengths
I had strengths in my
Advert such as the
use of Photoshop to
create the
backgrounds and to
animate my
advergame. I also
used premier pro to
add music and sound
effects into my game.
Weaknesses.
I also had weaknesses
during the production
of my radio advert. For
example I Struggled to
find sounds as it was
very limited because I
only had the use of
YouTube audio library
and Bensounds as the
music and sound effects
had to be copyright free
and premier pro does
not have any feature to
compose your own
music.
Changes
Next time I would add
more sound effects to
fully enhance the
listeners experience and
I would also consider
adding a Coca Cola
jingle to the end of the
advert.
13. Video Game Production
• Advantages of working in Photoshop
– Very useful for animating.
– Can animate in pixels.
Disadvantages of working in Photoshop
– Very basic animations.
– Takes a lot of time to edit and refine small details
as it is in pixels.
– Takes a lot of time to record as you are moving
your character forward a few spaces then making
a new frame.
14. Video Game Production Both
animated.
The goal is to get
the Coca Cola in
both of them.
Other product is a disaster
in the warehouse where as
my product is animated in
the open world against
natural obstacles.
15. Video Game Production
I thought that the
natural obstacles I made
were very professional
and looked good.
Strengths
Weaknesses
Changes
I could have spent
more time on the
pyramid and added a
bit more detail to it.
More detail on the coca
cola bottle. Such as
getting the branding of
Coca Cola on it.
The clouds were
done well I thought
as the different
shades of blue and
white mad them,
seem very realistic.
My character could
have been more
detailed and scaled
better to size.
Next time I would
scale some of my
assets to a more
reasonable size so
that they do not
get pixelated.

17. Comparison
• Which product do you believe advertises the
product the best? Why?
– I believe that the best product to advertise would
be the advergame because it gets an active
audience involve with the product as they can
watch it and play it.
• Which of your products is the most
professional? Why?
– I think that my poster was the most professional
because I thought my editing skills were the best
out of all of them.
18. Reflective Triangle
Write down one key
thing you have learnt
from this project
Write down two
things you would do
differently if you were
to do this project
again and how you
would do that.
Write down three
things you still need
to develop your
understanding on or
skills within.
Need to
develop
working on
sounds more in
premier pro.
Need to learn
more skills
within
photoshop
Need to work
on pixel
drawings in
photoshop
I would make
sure my images
and pixel
drawings are
correct and the
right size.
I would add
more detail to
my poster such
as new fonts to
make it more
professional.
I have learned
more I would
add more detail
to my poster
such as new
