"ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ವರ್ತನೆಯನ್ನು ನಿಯಮಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವ ನೈತಿಕ ತತ್ವಗಳೇ ಸಂಹಿತೆ". The code of conduct formulated with a view to maintain the sanctity of the profession is called the Code of Conduct. ವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಪಾವಿತ್ರ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ರೂಪಿಸಿದ ನೀತಿ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ವೃತ್ತಿ ನೀತಿ ಸಂಹಿತೆ ಎನ್ನುವರು. A set of ideals and principles of a profession, including self-respect, aimed at enhancing the dignity of the profession, is called a professional code of conduct. ವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ವೃದ್ಧಿಸುವ ಗುರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಸ್ವ-ವರ್ಚಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಆದರ್ಶ ಹಾಗೂ ತತ್ವಗಳ ಸಮೂಹವನ್ನು ವೃತ್ತಿ ನೀತಿ ಸಂಹಿತೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. The National Education Policy, 1986 stated about the professional code of conduct for teachers: "Teachers' unions should play an important role in upholding professional integrity, enhancing the dignity of teachers and controlling professional misconduct.
