INTRODUCTION
 Social networking means creating a public profile within a
particular websites and making relationship with other
people who are using the same websites.
Social networking site as "A website that provides a virtual
community for people interested in a particular subject or
just to 'hang out' together.“
Social networking is the practice of expanding the number
of one's business and/social contacts by making connections
through individuals, often through social media sites such
as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.
 Use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with
other users, or to find people with similar interests to one's
own.
 Many social networking websites were launched in the 1990.
 ORKUT was followed by MySpace, Facebook, twitter and
now Google +.
DIFFERENT SOCIAL NETWORKING SERVICES
 Social networking can be done mainly in 3 ways-
1. Social networking websites
2. Instant messaging service
3. Video calling
ORKUT
 Orkut is a Social Networking Website launched in 2004,
owned and operated by Google Inc.
 One of the most visited websites in India and Brazil.
 Named after its creator, Google employee Orkut
Buyukkokten.
MYSPACE
 Social Networking website owned by Specific Media LLC
and popstar Justin Timberlake.
 Launched in August 2003.
 Not much popular in India.
FACEBOOK
 Biggest revolution in the world of Social Networking.
 Founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college
roommates Eduardo Saverin , Dustin Moskovitz and Chris
Hughes.
 Facebook has more than 800 million active users.
 It is the largest social network in the world.
TWITTER
 Twitter is an online social networking and micro
blogging service.
 Created by Jack Dolsey and launched in 2006.
 Enables its users to send and read text-based
posts of up to 140 characters, informally known as
tweets.
YAHOO
 Owned by Yahoo Inc. and allows users to send instant
messages to other users.
 Both the sender and the receiver must have a Yahoo
Email Id and Yahoo messenger software installed on
their respective systems.
 Allows file transfer and photo sharing.
SKYPE
 Most popular way of allowing users to make voice
and video calls and chat over the Internet.
 Calls to other users within the Skype service are
free.
INSTAGRAM
 Instagram is a mobile photo-sharing application and
service that allows users to share pictures and videos
either publicly or privately.
 It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and
launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app exclusively
for the iOS operating system.
 Even though social networking can be useful if used in
preventive measures, its advantage overweigh the
disadvantage.

1. Worldwide connectivity-
 It is easier and faster to make new friend and business
connection or extend their personal base.
 Place of exchange news and get updated on friends and
family.
 We can virtually meet our friend online at any time.
2. Real-Time Information Sharing –
 With social networking site, we exchange information easily
in real-time via a chat.
 In addition, the internet is the ultimate online textbook.
3. Free advertizing-
 The best part of advertising in social networking site is that
we can spread the word for free!
 Entrepreneurs can find contacts via professional groups and
make use of the large user bases to market their products
and services.
 By having company social network profile,
we can deliver improved customer service and
respond effectively to feedback .

 It is important because it allows the children to exchange
ideas and learn new things.
 They more interact they learn more and it helps to
become more confidence.

1. Cyber bullying-
 Easy to spread false information. Anything can be
spread to millions of people in an instant.
 People can take advantage because everything is being
performed behind a screen, which makes it easier to
make fun of someone.
2. Higher Risks of Fraud-
 Anyone can create a false identity on a social network.
Without verification of someone’s identity, one could
become friend with a stranger.
 Without proper settings & privacy controls high chance
of someone stealing private information/ photos & use
against us.
3. Lack of Privacy ( Privacy Issue)-
 Personal information- sharing geographical location with
their exact location on social networking sites.
 Predators can obtain this information & easily identify
where they can find us at any given time.
4. Other disadvantages-
a. Addiction
b. Loss of Motivation in Students
a. Addiction-
 User are addicted to sites like the students attempt to
multitask that they check social sites while studying and it
will reduce their academic performance and concentrate
on task.
 They spent hours on sites and it hamper performance in
the other field.
 It also cause mental health problem
b. Loss of motivation-
 Motivation level of students reduces due to use of various
social networking sites.
 They highly depends on virtual environmental instead of
going practical knowledge of the real world.
 By this reduces their learning and research capability.
CONCLUSION
 We can see clearly that social networking sites are
advantageous only if they are used wisely.
 Using these sites would be helpful, if users do not spend
time unnecessarily.
 Wise members never provide personal information to
strangers.
 A doctor can operate with a knife and a murderer can kill
a person with the same knife.
