This document provides a production plan for a short film. It outlines details such as the film's release date of March 29th, a budget of £25, and casting of 4 main actors and 2 supporting actors who will work voluntarily. Equipment needs are minimal, using an existing camera and free editing/music software. Legal considerations include copyrighting the film, obtaining parental permission for minor actors, and aiming for a 12A classification. Contingency plans address potential issues like actor illness, weather delays, or lack of computer access. Feedback prompted strengthening an actor and clarifying the storyline earlier on.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2. WORK PLAN CONT.
• I will be launching my film on the 29th march
• This is a Friday which I think is a good day to release a film because many viewings
could be made available in the evening and over the weekend which is the prime
time of my audience being able to watch my film because they are at school/
college or possible work.
• Additionally, a lot of people get paid very close to this date so that means that they
have some disposable income to spend on things, one of those things could be to
go and watch a film at the cinema and they may find my film appealing.
• In addition to this, I think that march is a good time to release the film because it
doesn't’t clash with evens such as Halloween or Christmas where audiences expect
to see films related to these national holidays.
5. CAST AND CREW
• In my film there will be 4 main actors : 3 characters to play the role of the boys on
the camping trip and one character to play the older random guy that they find on
their travels in the forest. There will be 2 actors which will play supporting roles in
the film as extras to make my film more realistic.
• Also, at points I may require one of the crew members to assist me with the
equipment being used during filming. The actors will be of a high quality, who are
confident in front of the camera and be able to fully understand the roles of their
characters.
• All of the actors in the film will be voluntary so this means that no fees will be
incorporated into the budget regarding actors wages. However some of my cast will
be under 18 therefore I will require permission slips.
6. BUDGET
• The budget for my film will be 25 pounds.
• 15 pound for a tent and 10 for fuel to transport us from each of the locations.
• In my film I will be using my own camera which I have already purchased and will be
doing the filming and editing work myself, I wont need to budget costs for that.
• I wont need to buy the right to any music or sound effects because I will be
downloading them from copyright free websites such as Bensound.
• I will be using the editing software at school which has been downloaded to every
computer in school for students, additionally I have access to the software at home.
7. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
• My filmed footage is legally owned by me. In order to protect my footage I will copyright it
so that people have to ask me for my permission to use it in the future. Therefore this will
stop anybody using my footage for their own use without my permission. If anyone used my
footage from my film it would be taken down as it would be breaking copyright laws.
• Due to several of my actors being under the age of 18 I will need to get parental permission
from the actors parents for them to be broadcasted in the film.
• I will design my own studio title logo sequence myself so I will own the right to this if I
decide to copyright the sequence and the logo. My logo and sequence will be quite basic
but will be bold so that it will catch the audiences attention easily and will be easy for the
audience to remember.
8. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
• I will not be using any additional video footage found online within any parts of my film so I
wont need to research whether the footage is copyright free or spend time asking for
permission to use this.
• The music which I will use for my film is from a website called Bensound, this is a copyright
free website whereby I can download and use the music without having to ask permission
from the original composer. Once in my film I will not own the copyright to the music so if
someone else wanted to use it in there film or for another use they would be legally able to.
9. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• My film will be rated at a 12A. This will mean that anyone under the age of 12 would
have to be accompanied with an adult to watch this film. I believe this is appropriate
because the target audience of my film are teenagers and none of the scenes
exclude this age category. However a full classification would have to be made by
the BBFC.
• I want my film to be classified as a 12A as it would allow me to reach out to my
target audience better. By making it a 12A it will make the public realize that there is
potentially a good amount of action and fighting for it to be made a 12A which will
attract them to want to watch the film. If I were to make it a higher age range it
would mean it would reduce the target market for my film. If I was to make it a 15 it
would mean some of my target market wouldn't’t be legally permitted to watch the
film.
10. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Throughout the film there will be no footage which is offensive or discriminatory to
any groups of society. In some scenes in my film there will be some forms of violence
which is why it is a 12A film, there will be fake blood used to show this effect. If my
film were to include any of this content then the BBFC would change the age
certificate to an increased age and this would limit some of my audience to be able to
legally watch the film which would decrease viewing figures.
• Initially my film will be uploaded to short of the week but if it were to pick up
significant recognition from other broadcasting companies then this could be
negotiated at the right price. Short of the week say that all films must be free to watch
and less than 40 mins long and my film falls into this category easily as it is around 5
mins.
11. CONTINGENCY PLAN
• If any of my actors are ill or unavailable to film during the times needed during the
production phase of my film. I have a list of of actors which I have on standby to take their
place should any of my actor be unavailable. All of my actors roles are quite easy to
understand and be able to replicate so I shouldn't I face any problems.
• My film may be affected by the weather - for example if it is heavily raining this could cause
me to not be able to film, Considering the fact my location is in the forest. If this were to
happen I have a rescheduled plan with my actors in order to film on a different day soon
after.
• During the editing phase of my film, If I don’t have any access to a computer during school
time, I will have the files saved onto my computer at home so that I can edit in from there as
I have the necessary adobe software available to me at home. This will also allow me to edit
both at home and at school if necessary.
12. REVISED KEY SCENE
• When I presented my pitch to the panel, I was advised that I need to make the
storyline a little bit clearer in the fact that the plan of what they are going to be
doing needs to be set from an early stage to make sure that the audience
understand what us happening.
• Additionally I was told that I need to make sure that I get actors who are of a high
quality otherwise my film wont be believable to my audience and this would impact
my film massively.
• Therefore I have removed one of my actors and replaced him with an actor who is
much more experienced in this field of work as I feel that the original actor wouldn't
have been able to fulfill his role .
• I will make the storyline as clear as possible from the start and make sure that the
message which is being portrayed about bullying is shown well to achieve the
purpose of the film.
