EQUIPMENT GUIDE
Type: What will I use: Why have I chosen
this over others:
How I will use it:
Equipment Canon (camera It is the one I have available at home
I will be able to use it when I want.
I will use it to record things such as
establishing shots and medium shots of
my characters and there surroundings.
Equipment Tripod I have chosen a standard Tripod I will place where I am recording and put
my camera on top of it so that my
stays still and my footage is accurate.
Prop Teddy Bear I will use a teddy bear as I want it to
symbolise a specific thing for my
character.
I will have it on the ground and it will be
picked up and held by my character
briefly before he drops it on the floor.
Prop Broken Mirror I have chosen a broken mirror over a
normal mirror as I want my character to
look into the mirror and see that it is
broken and not to show the full picture.
My character will pick it up and look into
it briefly before putting it onto the floor.
Equipment SD Card I need an SD card in order to have
somewhere where I can store my
on when I go out and record my short
film.
I will place the SD card inside the camera
and it will store the footage that I
onto it.
Equipment Card reader I will be using a card reader instead of
sending the footage from the camera to
the computer as it will be a faster
and the camera I am using wont be able
to send the footage straight to the
computer.
I will put the SD card I have used into the
card reader and then put the card
into the computer and transfer my
footage over onto the computer so that I
am then able to edit it.
Equipment Adobe premier pro I will use this over other editing
as it is free for me to use and of a high
industry standard.
I will import my footage onto the
program and then begin to edit my
film, I will be able to use the software to
order my clips and to remove unwanted
things in my short film while also being
able to add audio and music to my short
film.
BUDGET
• The budget for my short film will only be £5 as I already own the props that I need for
my short film, I am being provided with a camera and the equipment that goes
alongside it for free from the school while the program being used to edit my short
film is also free. The only thing I will need to spend money is £5 on the petrol to get to
my location.
PERSONNEL WHO ARE HELPING WITH
PRODUCTION.
• Tom Cutler: I have chosen him for my short film because I wanted someone who
wasn’t too tall and because I feel that he can be a good fit for my short film and is
someone who can portray his character to a high standard. I also believe that he is a
good person to include in my short film as they are available at time I want to film my
short film.
• Harry Mabb: I have chosen them to be in my short film because they are of a similar
height to my other actor which I wanted and they are a good fit for the character in my
short film, also they are available when I want to film my short film so their won’t be
any clashes in schedule and I will be able to film my short film when intended.
RELEASE DATE/SOUND REASONING
• The release date for my short film will be April 1st, I’ve chosen this date as I will be able
to ensure that my short film is completed by this deadline and will completely ready to
release with it being fully edited. I am also releasing my film on this date as it wont be
clashing with any major events and this can help me ensure that my short film receives
as much coverage as possible.
• It is highly unlikely that I will be including music for my short film as I want to create
tension throughout my short film and I believe that by not having any music or theme
in it I will be able to build tension, If I do have any music it will be at the beginning
with the establishing shot or at the end to help draw an end to my short film. If I do
have music for these two events I will create it myself, I have no examples of it as I am
still unsure whether I will be needing any music for my short film.
LEGAL REPORT GUIDE
What? Who owns it? Legal Impact Any impact on use?
My film footage I do I should copyright my work in
order to protect it from people
trying to use it and claiming it as
there own.
If any of my actors are under the
age of 18 I will need to make sure
that I have permission from their
parent/guardian in order to film
them and have them in short film.
My Studio logo Me as I have designed it myself. Again I should probably copyright
it in order to protect other people
from using it without my
permission.
The impact of me using my own
studio logo is that I won’t receive
any copyright claims as I made it,
also as I made it I didn’t have to
spend any money on getting on
designed and that saved me
money.
Musical score for my track. I will own my musical score for my
track because I will be creating it
myself.
Again I should probably copyright
or protect my musical score in
order to make sure that no one
uses it without my permission
Using a musical score that I made
impacts my production as It can
specific to what I want it to be. I
won’t need to spend any money if
I am creating my own musical
score.
Sound effects The website which I am taking
them from, and also I will be
creating sound effects myself.
If they are from a website online I
will need to make sure that they
are royalty free so that I am not
infringing copyright laws.
The impact of me using effects from
online sites is that I need to make
sure that they are royalty free and if
not then I have to credit the creator
the credits or description of my short
film.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
What? What is the impact on my film? Legal impact
Certificate of my film I will have to make the certificate of the film in
accordance to what is going to be in my film
certain things are inappropriate for certain
audiences. So for example to avoid my film
being rated a 18 I will need to make that there
is no: Sexual content, Blood/gore, Drug
use/abuse and other explicit things that would
be appropriate for anyone under the age of
I will have to rate my film based on this in
to keep in accordance with BBFC who
the age ratings of films and rates them so that
they are suitable for whose watching them.
we must stick to their rules as if not then they
are likely to rate my film at a higher age rating
which wouldn’t be too high for my target
audience and this could hinder the amount of
people watching it.
Content considerations I need to make sure I don’t have anything in
short film that might be seen as offensive to
people, for example I wont be including
offensive language, symbols,
The legal impact of me putting something
offensive in my short film is that I could receive
complaints from people who have watched
short film and found something in it that is
offensive, this could decrease the popularity of
my film with the public. Also if my short film
was found to have offensive material it could
be reported to OFCOM who could then make
me remove my film from the platforms it is on.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
• If I am unable to film the scenes for my short film on my chosen date I will be able to
film the next day as I am planning to record for my short film during half term when
we do not have college, my cast are available to film throughout that week so if I run
into a situation where I can’t film I will be able to do it another day during that week.
• If one of my actors becomes unable to be in my short film I have backup actors who
can fill in for my actors if they can’t make the date of my film shoot.
• Also if it is raining, snowing or there are poor conditions I will postpone filming as if
the conditions are poor there is an increased chance of my actors getting injured.
REVISED KEY MATERIAL
• Following on from making my pitch I decided that I needed to add a bit more dialogue
for my characters as originally I wanted to have as little dialogue as possible but by
adding more dialogue I feel that I can make my short film more entertaining for my
audience. I also feel that I should make my short film slightly shorter as I was originally
going to make my short film 10-15 minutes along but following on from my pitch and
my feedback I feel that it would drag on to much and I want to make it shorter so that
I don’t bore my audience and keep them entertained and engaged.
