The document provides a production plan for a short film about seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It includes:
- Details on the launch date of March 11th 2018 to give enough time for high-quality production and target audiences who may relate to SAD.
- A list of equipment needed like cameras, tripods, computers and software for filming, storing footage, and editing.
- Notes on legal considerations for copyrighting original content and ensuring all music is copyright free.
- Contingency plans for issues like bad weather, actor availability, and equipment failure to complete filming.
- Requirements for a teenage female lead actor and details on costumes, makeup, and potential crew help.
3. WorkPlan
explained
I have chosen the specific launch date being, 11th March 2018, as I feel as though,
this will give me enough time to be able to make my film, to the highest standard
that I can. I also feel that March will be a good time to launch my film as it is a
time where it is towards the end of winter, so people aren’t going out and about too
much at this time of year. For example, the weather is likely to not be as good.
Therefore, people will have more time on their hands and will want to find things
to keep them entertained. Therefore, I feel as though this will be a very popular
time for short films. As my film is cantered around the mental illness SAD, I feel
as though this will also be a good time for my film to launch, as people with this
mental illness will be coming towards summer, so will hopefully give them a sense
of hope that it does get better for people. This will not clash with any local events.
Therefore, I will not have to worry about this interfering with my launch.
4. Equipmentthat
Iwillneed
Type What I will use Why I have
chosen it
How I will use it
Equipment Camera I will need a camera to film on.
I am going to use a camera
from school and possibly my
own from home.
I will film with it and make
sure that it is on the right
settings. I am filming in many
different weather conditions,
so the camera settings will
change, dependant on that.
Equipment Tripod A tripod is better than free
hand to hold the camera still.
I will set the tripod at the
correct height.
Equipment SD card and
reader
I will be able to collect all the
footage on one SD card and
then upload it to the
computer.
I will use my SD card to store
all of my footage and I will
then use my card reader, to
upload my footage.
Equipment Computer A useful tool to edit and store
footage.
I will edit my film with this.
Equipment Headphones I will be able to hear clearly
whilst I am editing audio.
I will use these when editing.
Software Adobe premier
pro
A useful tool to edit with and a
programme, that I have used
before.
I will edit all of my footage
with this programme.
Software Adobe audition It is a useful tool to edit the
audio of my film and have
used this programme before.
I will edit my audio with this
programme.
Software Adobe Photoshop A good programme to edit
photos with and is a
programme I have used
numerous times before.
I will use this to edit my
Studio logo.
Assets Sound effects Adds a sense of realism. I will put this in, in outside
footage. E.g. Birds chirping to
add realism.
Assets Studio Logo Gives a more realistic,
professional look.
I will put this at the end of my
film.
Assets Musical Score Adds atmosphere. I will put dialogue over the top
of this.
5. PermissionSlip
This is my permission slip that I will print
and give to my Actor and back up Actors to
sign as they will all be under 18 and
therefore, I will have to get permission from
their parents to use them in my film, as
they are still technically classed as
children.
6. LegalReport
Guide
What Who owns this Legal Impact Any impact of
use
My filmed footage I own this footage. I should copyright my
footage. Therefore the
footage is legally mine
and nobody will be able
to steal it and will then
have to ask for my
permission should they
want to use it.
I have asked my Actors
for their permission to
be filmed for my film.
As all my Actors are
under 18, I have made
a permission slip for all
my actors and their
parents to sign.
Studio title logo
sequence
I own this as I will
design and make this
myself.
I should copyright this
so that anybody that
wants to use this
footage has to ask for
my permission to do so
and they will not be
able to steal my idea.
I must make sure that
my studio title logo is
not going to resemble
anybody else's and is
completely original.
Sound effects/ Musical
score
Ben sound own the
music that I am going
to use within my film.
The music that I want
to use from Ben sound
is copyright free so I
will not have to ask for
permission to use the
music in my film.
I must make sure that
all of the music that I
am using is completely
copyright free before
putting it in my film or
I could be accused of
copying or stealing the
music.
7. Ethical
Considerations
What? What is the impact on
your film?
Legal impact
What certificate would you rate
your short film?
Source:
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/what-
classification/12a-and-12
I would class my short film as being a
“12”.Therefore, I can only include
moderate violence, moderate language,
No promotion of potentially dangerous
behaviour, Nudity must be brief and
discreet, moderate sex references are
permitted and misuse od drugs should
be infrequent and not glamourized.
The BBFC are in charge of age
certificates and will put an appropriate
certificate on a film that they think is
appropriate for a specific age range to
view. We must adhere to this because
otherwise legal action could be taken as
viewers that are younger than the
certificate are viewing a film. This is
against the law.
Content Considerations
Source:http://www.bbfc.co.uk/wh
at-classification/12a-and-12
I would class my short film as being a
“12”. This is because it is based around
such a sensitive topic that children
under 12 are likely to not understand.
As well as this, the main character is
going to have a breakdown and get
extremely angry with herself, possibly
showing slight signs of violence. This
must be moderate and should not dwell
on detail, according to The BBFC. I am
going to a shoot this in a tasteful way
by using no bad language and using
very moderate violence.
I must make sure that I keep the
content in my film as being suitable for
persons above the age of 12 and above
to view.

Short of the week do not have any hard
fast rules. They believe that every film
is different and there are always
exceptions. In general however, they do
not like music videos, abstract films,
films driven solely by special effects,
commercials or purely promotional
pieces, time-lapse and photography
films and comedy sketches based on a
singular punchline. They also require
films to have all the necessary rights
and releases secured for them to
feature them. They only select films
free to view for audiences.
I will make sure that my film adheres
to all of the guidelines stated on the
short of the week website. I will also
make sure that my film has all of the
necessary rights and that it is free for
the audience to view.
8. Contingency
plan
If in the unfortunate event that something goes wrong I am going to have
contingency plans to fall back on, so that these issues can be resolved and I am still
able to complete my film.
If the weather is not the right weather- I am lucky enough to be able to shoot in all
types of weather conditions as my film is based around changes in weather
affecting somebody's mental health. Therefore, if I plan on shooting when it is
raining but turns out to be sunny then I will shoot a different part of my film.
If my main character is unable to take part in my film- If my main character is
unable to be in my film, I am going to have backup actors just in case, so that they
can step in, should something like this happen.
If my equipment breaks- If my equipment breaks I am going to make sure that I
have backup equipment should this occur and I will replace the equipment that
has broken with that.
9. CastandCrew
Cast
I will need a teenage female to be the main character in my film, preferably in her
late teens.
I am going to have to make sure that I have a lot of dark and colourful makeup for
my main character to wear. I am probably going to have to buy some brightly
coloured makeup and I own mostly dark and light coloured makeup, that is not
particularly colourful. For the summer months, I would like my character to wear
very colourful bright makeup in the summer and spring months.
Outfit wise, I have many different coloured clothes, some dark and some very
bright so I can lend my Actor some of my clothes. If they are a different size to me
then my Actor will hopefully have both bright coloured and dark coloured clothes.
If not, I will have to consider buying my Actor some clothes that fit the role.
Crew
I may need some crew members to help me hold equipment whilst I am filming.
This way time will be used more efficiently when filming in different locations,
where there is not a great deal of spaces to put my equipment down. I feel as
though this will be really beneficial for me to have.
10. Budget
For my film I am going to have a very low budget as I don’t feel as though I am
going to need to buy a great deal.
Props
I may have to take some photos of my Actor in sunny weather and get them
printed out to put in frames around a bedroom, that I am going to film in.
Costume and makeup
I may have to buy some brightly coloured makeup for my Actor to wear, so that the
makeup fits with my character.
I may also have to buy some dark and brightly coloured clothes for my Actor to
wear.
Hiring
I am not going to need to hire anywhere for my film as I will use either my
bedroom or my Actors. Otherwise all of my filming will be outside. I.e. The beach
or the forest. I may have to pay for car parking at these places but that will be all
here.
11. ResolvingLegal
andEthical
Issues
If there are any legal or ethical issues that occur throughout my film
that do not adhere to the certificate that I feel as though my film will
classify as, then I will make sure that I re-shoot certain scenes and
there are no longer and Legal or Ethical issues.
If there are any problems with copyright and something that I have
done is too close to that of somebody else’s work that is copyrighted, I
will make sure that I change this, so that there are no legal issues and
I do not get in trouble legally.
